I am paying £85.50 per month for Sky variety pack and Sky sports. Have been with Sky over 15 years but it never gets cheaper.

The usual reason for a bill increase, other than the usual inevitable annual price increase in April, is that your discounts have ended.

Perhaps compare the latest bill with previous ones to see where it differs.

If your discounted minimum term has ended or its ending soon the best new discounts are still normally acquired by contacting Sky and negotiating or potentially amending your package which will require a new 24 month minimum term contract.

’Significant’ discounts seem harder to come by these days so if you’re offered something acceptable be prepared to agree to it there and then because if you decide to think about it the offer is unlikely to be available when you call back. Also remember you’re not a new Sky customer so don’t expect anything on a par to a new customer deal.

If you decide it’s no longer value for money and you’re thinking of changing providers remember that at the end of their minimum term you'll be in the same position with that company at which point you'll be able to return to Sky and benefit from the new customer discounts available at that particular time.

If you are still on the Variety Pack then it is likely that any discoounts finished a long time ago

Since Variety was the base Package we have had Entertainment & now Signature (for a few years now)

Moving to Signature reduced costs for many customers - especially as Box sets are included without being an extra add on but it might not for you.

As @Daniel0210 mentions discounts for Satellite TV can now be thin on the ground with most discounts being targetted at Stream customers (& again as @Daniel0210 mentions, unfortunately existing customers don;t get the level of discounts targetted at new csutomers)

Needless to say, the costs for Sports rights obtained by SKY are high so these will never be cheap

As @nigea99 indicates, the Variety Pack was superceded at the end of 2017.

You aren’t talking to Sky by posting here. If you are new to the forum then welcome to the Community which is made up predominantly of Sky customers helping other Sky customers which includes additional help from customers who are Superusers like myself.

If you feel strongly about that consider an alternative provider as suggested earlier in the thread.

This crops up a lot and I don't totally disagree, but it has always been thus and it isn't just Sky.

When you join, you got a cheap rate to entice you in that existing customers were also subsidising. You have total control over how you spend your money, everything Sky offers is available from other suppliers or from Sky themselves in different ways (think NOW).

You have to be pro-active and negotiate hard at contract renewal, be prepared to leave or actually leave to get the best deal for you and yours.

Sadly, every business wants to extract from you the maximum money they can and that you will allow. It's your choice alone if you let them.

Subscription television companies (and ISPs) aren't required to be 'fair' in that respect. The only industry which is regulated that way is motor insurance, because the FCA has greater powers than Ofcom to control pricing.

I notice you are on quite a old package as the variety pack long with other old entertainment packs were replaced signature a few years ago. Are you still on on minimum term discount subscription or has that finished and you paying the full list price on monthly basis, which from the amount you have quoted you probably are. This being the case if are on monthly contract you may find if you contact Sky you may be able to get a new package with discount which may reduce your monthly cost. However that will also probably come with a new 24 month minimum term.

I just done exercise to see how much a new Sky subscriber pays compared to what I presenly pay as Sky subscriber of 13 years on 24 month minimum term. Put the equverlant what I presenly have and what a new sub subscriber would pay as new subscriber for the same equivalent iteams. I think the amount a new subscriber would pay is not that dramatically more then what I am paying.
I have SkyQ so I have Sky signanature, Sky sports complete, TNT sports and HD add on. and pay £106 a month with my present discounts. A new sub subscriber on Sky stream have ultimate entertainment, Sky sports complete TNT sports, would pay £69 which just a difference of just £37 . To me that is a drastic extra discount for new subscriber.

I do realise there are differences with Sky Q and Sky stream as Sky Q has signature which has more channels than sky streams ultimate so I could say get more for the high price I pay for signature ut ultimate includes Netflix standard with adds so I would have to pay a extra £6 to have on that on Q so maybe that rules out extra channels available on signature and of cause on stream you get HD as standard so there no extra paid for that like there is on Q. However only £37 extra to me that not tha dramticly more compared with what a new subscriber would pay. And I beleave that if I could do the same exercise with New customer SkyQ subscription i think the amount difference would be less as would think that though the TNT sports complete and may be Sky sports subscription would be the same as as new Sky stream subscriber would pay, what a new subscriber would pay for signanture may be slightly more as as it is dearer package and there would be a charge for HD though they new subscriber may get som discount on that so do I, I get £1 off stay be there would possably not mush diffence there. So all in all though Sky advertising looks like new customers get fantastic deals what the adverting is only showing the basic package looks great at just £24 a month ( but I aonkybpay £36 for signature so if that all iI had my monthly amount would only be £12 more than what a new subscriber is paying for just ultimate and I said new subscribers to Q would probably pay mor than £24 for signature) and when you add all the other add on like I have to me difference of what new customer actually pays against what a 13 year exsisting subscriber like me pays is not to me that great.
