I've had a new sky Q box and sometimes when I switch it on recorded/apps/ and live tv will jump as they are playing, I've seen a software update for this, I be forced 3 times now and still not corrected it. Is it a faulty hard drive but like I say doesn't do it every time

Don't bother uodating. It'll let you do it even if you're already on the latest.

Who said there was a software update for this problem?

Doesn't sound familiar. Is this a stuttering problem, framerate / buffering?
