Sky won’t connect to UW wifi rooter

sky tv will not connect to utility warehouse rooter. All other devices work fine with the wifi.

I know my password is correct and I've tried it lots of times but the error message check password keeps appearing and it will not connect. I've rang sky who said I need an engineer but this issue happened a few years ago and they helped me sort it over the phone. But apparently they can not do this now. The WPS doesn't work on 3rd party internet providers apparently and you have to connect via password (although I have tried this too). Help please, it's driving me crazy

hi @Rachi2

Does the password contain what you think is either a lowercase i or lowercase l - we know that these often appear very similar & can be possibly on many password labels/stickers - if so please double check you are using the correct one

Yes it does and it is 100% correct as I've used it on all my other devices at home.

Hi @Rachi2

Just be aware that on 3rd party broadband, when using WiFi you can only connect to the router 2.4 Ghz band.

Best option is to connect your Q box by Ethernet to your router if practical.

Many modern routers steer 2.4GHz connections to 5GHz - which works with modern clients. The Q box will simply disconnect.

Worth seeing if there's an option on the router to disable steering or create a split set of SSID's.

Ahh right. I've never had an issue with it really. This is the 2nd time in 11 years it's happened. I was connected fine until last night.

If it's been working for such a long time then either it's a temporary glitch that some reboots will fix or something has changed...

It could be a software update on router or Q box.

I'm with utility warehouse and having this same issue, usually ok and connects fine, I've rebooted, reset, turned off for 15 mins, pulled plugs reset network settings, rebooted router numerous time, everything else in the house works fine off the wife just the sky q won't now connect to broadband

I solved mine today, I contacted utility Warehouse and a tech called Kev was fantastic, he explained all really well, unticked a mesh option for my router,, assigned 2.4ghz and 5ghz to my router, he also unchecked IPV6 as said only works off IPV4. Next bit of info told me the firmware update on the Sky Q may have caused it, and as I don't have a Sky router this can sometimes be a problem as Sky Q doesn't have the control to tell the non Sky router to reconnect automatically via WPS, he also told me to uncheck eco mode on Sky Q, anyway all working again now, hope you solve yours, I had to wait a long time in Utility warehouse queue but it was worth it

I'll post the tips he gave me

Tip 1

Hello from UW

Please use the steps below for help with turning off the WiFi Hotspot on your Sky Q equipment.

Press "Home" on your Sky Q remote,

Go to "Settings", followed by "Network"

Select "Advanced Settings"

Select "WiFi Hotspots"

select "Turn Off"

You will need to enter your "TV Pin" (If required)

It will now ask you to confirm that you wish to turn off WiFi hotspots,

select "Turn off" to continue.

You will now see a confirmation screen that WiFi hotspots have been turned off.

Tip 2

Hello from UW

Here is a simple guide showing you how to update the firmware on your Sky Q box.

To check for a firmware upgrade (Skip if up to date)

Press "Home" on your Sky Q remote.

Go to "Settings"

Press "System Info"

Highlight the "Software Version"

If the firmware is out of date, you will see "Setup", please press this and then select "Software download"

Your box will start to download the latest software.

This can take up to 10 minutes.

To help keep your Sky Q box connected to your WiFi network we recommend turning off "Eco Mode" within the Standby settings.

Please follow the steps below:

Press "Home" on your Sky Q remote.

Go to "Settings"

Select "Setup"

Select "Preferences" followed by "Standby mode and off"
