Hi, I've had an intermittent no audio issue between my Sky Q box and Bose 600 soundbar for a while now. It seems to happen when I pause, rewind or fast-forward anything I'm watching on Sky Q. The good old turn it off and on again is the only way I've been able to resolve this. It doesn't happen every time and if was only every now and then I wouldn't mind, but it's turning into a daily task.

I've been on to Bose tech support with the assumption it's a soundbar fault, but as it isn't affecting any of the streaming apps on my TV, they're pinning it on Sky Q (tested rapidly jumping forwards/backwards on Netflix, Disney + and the audio has never dropped). The only thing that I can put it down to is the Sky Q is occasionally getting stuck when a film is paused and then played, meaning no audio is passing through to the soundbar. Not the most technical description but it's the only thing that makes sense to me at this point. I've tried different HDMI cables, optical cables, CEC on/off and all of the different CEC options in the Bose app (attached). I'm struggling to find anything else to test so any other help would be much appreciated.

Setup

Sky Q -> HDMI 1 -> LG CX -> HDMI 2 eARC -> Bose 600 Soundbar

Sky Q - Digital audio output HDMI - Dolby Digital Plus

LG CX - Sound Out set to HDMI ARC, Digital Sound Out set to Pass Through and eARC enabled

Just one observation although I don't know whether it's causing your issue.

Early LG's had issues with Audio passthrough.

Have you tried any of the other Audio HDMI format options (DD or Normal)

I have exactly the same setup (600, CX, 1TB box) with exactly the same problem. And it is only ever with fast forwarding / rewinding / pausing Sky recordings. Never anything else (as with yourself) e.g. tv streaming apps or PS5. I don't use Ultra HD (and therefore Atmos) as the Sky box upscaling is truly awful compared to the tv doing the upscaling and it's Ultra HD picture is too dark and poor. This problem is starting to annoy me now, so I hope that you've found a solution.

Hi @FKM,

Sorry for the late reply!

Unfortunately I still have the same issue. I tried the optical cable again and although it is more stable than HDMI, the drop out still occasionally happens. I've been speaking to LG support this morning and they've suggested what @oldfella said, but they also suggested changing the HDMI input audio format over to PCM (from Bitstream). As far as I can tell, it limits the audio to stereo so Dolby Atmos isn't possible with this enabled. That doesn't bother me as long as the drop out issue is resolved. I've changed this over so I'll add a comment in here if it works 🙂

I have the same issues, normally the sound cuts out every few days after fast forwarding through adverts. When it does work there is always blip sound prior to sound coming back.

i am using a Sony XR55A80L tv which is a year old, so not tv specific.
Thinking of just ditching the Bose soundbar, as fed with having to keep restarting everything.

aaaaarrggghhhhh

One thing to check is that HDMI control is set to on on both your TV for the (e)ARC port and on your soundbar.

To re -set up your remote to work with the sound bar, try going to

Home - Settings - Setup - Remote Control - SKy Q remote & then select Control a Speaker System

If that fails then may I suggest you try a reset of your remote:

Press & Hold the 7 & 9 until the remote's light (red LED above the SKY logo button) flashes 4 times

Then press 1 & 3 together to go through to re-pair with the box and your TV *& Sound bar (after the TV) - make sure it has line of sight of the box as until it is paired it uses Infrared

https://www.sky.com/help/diagnostics/sky-q-remotes/setting-up-remote

Thats interesting. For reasons i wont borebyou with, I upgraded my LG CX to an LG G5 and gave the CX to a family member. The Bose 600 Sky Q problem went away 😀 However I've also since swapped the Bose 600 for a Sennheisser Ambeo soundbar (gave the Bose to a different family member) ... no similar Bose like freezing issues 👍 However, there is a slight lip sync delay on Sky Q channels - none on the PS5 or inbuilt tv streaming apps. It's hard not to see Sky Q as the common denominator in all this.

I have the similar setup sony oled tv and bose 600 soundbar. Same issues sound cuts out after fast forward or pause. Complained to sky who sent a new box. Same issues with new box.

Solution is to ditch dolby digital/digital plus and just use normal. Sorted the problem. It's a shame sky engineering haven't got their act together to resolve this issue
