If I have sky signiture and ultimate TV and boost to netflix(includes sky HD)

Why am i charged seperately for SKY HD and UHD

Hi @davidjpc8 Maybe because you want entertainment HD and UHD? These are not included in Signature and Ultimate TV (Netflix). If you don't want these, you need to contact Sky to cancel.

Sky sports includes HD. Don't think any others do. Free to air stuff is in HD of course.

Whilst it's included as standard the hd element may be shown as a separate line on bills

Because that's been the Sky business model on their satellite platforms since those resolutions became available (HD in 2006 and UHD in 2016)

The optional Netflix subscription supplements to upgrade Standard with Adverts to Standard or Premium do not change the resolution of other services: the reverse used to be true (Sky HD and UHD add-ons boosting bundled Netflix Basic to Standard and Premium) but that stopped being the case in December 2023

Ultimate TV and Essential TV on Sky Glass and Sky Stream do not have a separate HD charge, but UHD is still an add-on.

To answer the question in the title.

The HD add on allows you to watch any channel that is part of SKy Signature in HD - althouhg the Free to Air channels such as the BBC & ITV do not need it

There is a quirk that you can watch & record Channel 4 & Channel 5 in HD but downloads in HD need the HD add on

As the others have said SKY Sports is now in HD as standard (although it is separated off in bills) - even when it wasn't in HD as standard it need the separate Sports HD add on (as still listed separately in bills)

Note: a couple of channels with Sports in the name are part of signature not SKY Sports add on & thus need the HD add on to watch in HD (SKY Sports News, SKY Sports Mix & possibly one more that I can't remember)

The UHD add on needs the HD add on as pre-requisite and allows you to watch any UHD content (not applicable to apps) be that Entertainment, from say SKY Atlantic, and also Sports

BTW On some old plans the HD/UHD add ons on SKY did upgrade the Netflix tier but this is not applicable for newer subscriptions and anyone who has had a major change since the switch introducing the Boost plans a couple of years go

Given the time since the change was made I think all minimum contract periods agreed on those previous terms have now elapsed, and the current pricing structure will be in place for everyone.
