I am new to Sky and waiting my sky to be delivered, can I record from Sky Essential TV or do I need sky Q?

If you have ordered SKY Stream (or Glass) with SKY Esential TV, then that is a stream only option - you can add shows to playlists and may be able to do some 'Cloud' recording but recordings are not quite the same as on Physical disk that SKY Q

uses.

If you confirm that you have ordered SKY Stream, I will move this to that group & others can advise better regarding Cloud recording etc. & using the system in general
