They do make a noise (spinning hard disk/fan) - but if it's excessive you may need a box replacement.

It can either be the hard drive or the fan. Turn the box off at the wall and make sure there's not excessive dust gathering round the vents on the underside of the box. Blow some air into the fan to make sure it's not getting clogged.

Also, try applying a bit of pressure to the top of the box. Does that stop the hum?

I have the same problem with a noisy gym coming from the Sky Q box.

applying a small amount of pressure to the top of the box worked a treat. Thanks

I have had a supposed new box delivered and there is a humming sound coming from the box and it won't connect?

It won't connect to what? Your TV? Your broadband? This is a Q box, not a Stream puck, yes?
