Trying to connect Sky Mini Box in remote room

I've just had a new garden room built. I want to connect a Sky Mini Box in this room. I'm on Sky Broadband, and have an access point outside, so WiFi signal is very good. The room is about 12 metres away from the building with the Sky Q main box.

Whats the best way using WiFi for me to connect my mini box?

Exactly what is your Access point?

It directly linked to the main router via Ethernet. Provides excellent coverage to the new room.

Not sure of the spec but it's a Ubiquiti Wall. Network company installed.

Yeh OK @cheese26

Afraid Q mini boxes will not connect to any 3rd Party WiFi units. Using WiFi they will only connect to the Q mesh generated by the Q boxes or a Sky Q WiFi booster or the Sky router.

As your router is SKY then you should be able to connect the mini to your ethernet cable instead of your current Access point & the mini should then also act as an access point to your network

So I don't have an Ethernet connection in the room, just WiFi via the access point.

Sorry I misunderstood where your Access point is - I thought it was in the room

Add a ubiquiti node in the garden room. It should be able to mesh with the existing one, I think, and connect the mini to that over ethernet. (I don't know this device, using general principles here)

As far as I am aware @Chodley

this will only work if all Q boxes are connected to other mesh nodes

Interesting. In a normal networking world, that shouldn't be necessary but Q's networking has never been labouring under the adjective "normal".

Hi - did you get this to work. I have exactly the same set up, but have never been able to get the Sky Mini Box to work in the garden room because is can't connect wirelessly to the main Sky Box, even thought the wifi signal in the garden room is perfect.

It wants to talk direct to the Q. Its general wifi signal is irrelevant.

Sky Q Booster although people (including me) have had mixed results.

I would use cables if possible, powerline adapters, or connect each box directly to another wifi mesh node which then looks to the Sky boxes like standard ethernet.

Fixed. Same for me. Sky Q inside. WAP via Ethernet in garden room.

Had to;

1. Plug a wireless extender that has an Ethernet port in the room with the WAP - near the mini box.

2. Connect the extender to the WAP (the WAP SSID, security type AND passwords must EXACTLY match the house).

3. use an Ethernet cable from the extender to the mini box.
4. DO NOT press the Sync button on the house box when prompted. Just wait. It will time out.
5. When it does - on the mini box press home and go to settings but don't select it. Press 0 0 1 select.
6. town of 2.4 and 5gHz wireless.
This forces it to use the cable and fixes it.
