Sky Q box for about 10 years now I believe I bought it for about £200 back then ?

I believe I bougth a sky Q box about 10 years ago for about £200 so do I own it or do sky and has the position changed ?

All Sky Q boxes, and mini boxes are still owned by Sky and were only loaned to you.

Seems to say that but I definitely had to fork out like £200 when I 1st got sky Q about 10 years back ? it defo seemed like a purchase of sky Q box - probably soem con fusing marketing giving you impression you are buying it when all new customers were getting it for nothing.

Typical of the rip off britain far better offers for new people and no reward for loyalty the whole culture of this is pathetic. nothing in this world seems to be interested in loyal customers for 30 plus years.

Sky Q boxes have always been owned by Sky. Subsequently if they aren't returned at the end of a subscription you get charged a non return fee and even then ownership still remains with Sky. That's also why any seen being advertised for sale on various websites are classed as stolen property because they aren't the customers to sell.

It's kind of pointless buying a Sky Q box, whether it was for £200 or £20... they're effectively useless without a Sky subscription and Sky loan you a box as soon as you subscribe. They will also swap the box if it develops a fault during your contract. If the box belonged to you and you had it for 10 years it would be far outside any warranty period, so you may as well let Sky loan you one.

I got Sky Q when it first came out. I remember it being very clear at the time that this was like Virgin's service, not the old sky model of buying the box. Not sure I paid £200 but there was definitely some setup cost as an "engineer" had to change the LNB, set up the ropey wifi etc.

I prefer it because if anything goes wrong, Sky have to swap the box and I don't pay again.

No, the contract has always stated the boxes are loaned for the duration of your subscriptions.

Sky quoted silly up-front costs for a single UHD main Q box at launch in early 2016 : something like £249 which then miraculously reduced or even disappeared entirely if the prospective subscriber chose to add Multiscreen, a Q Mini box and either Cinema or Sports to the account.

It's probably worth remembering that hardware like that was significantly more expensive to manufacture a decade ago than it is now.

Anyway on an important note when do the proper retentios team get in touch and give best offers ? im wanting £60 for everything - default offer is £131 ? am I gonna be joining the amazon fire stick brigade or is it realistic to get all TV Sky Q including top netflix ultimate and multiroom for £65 ? just can't justify £131 in this day and age to watch sports and netflix ?

@adeace2 As advised more than once within the thread all Sky Q boxes (Main Q 7 Mini Q) are loaned. You don't seem to be willing to accept reality here, even if you haven't read the T&C's they STILL apply to you.

The £99 or £49 that you paid for the miniboxes is what Sky call an 'activation fee' or a 'setup fee' - it basically covers their hardware manufacture costs, shipping and warranty support. They still own the boxes - you don't.

Miniboxes, like main Q boxes are entirely useless without a Sky subscription so it's pointless owning them.

The first mini box doesn't attract the fee (included in the multiroom sub) but is still also owned by Sky

no I have accepted now that all equipment is loaned im just sying was not overly clear from anything communicated verbally after you eventually used to get through to Sky on the phone which used to take about an hour of your life ? So I am sure as you have all correctly pointed out that the terms apply correctly - anyway as others seem to I have lost interest in theis particular thread but would like advice on best deals people are on for Sky Q, Multiroom, Sports, Cinema & the ultimate Netflix ? price quoted was £131.25 RRP which is a disgrace ? what price has anyone else got for that level of package - Broadband not applicable as canot get this due to being in East Yorkshire and BT not existing here.
