Sky Q BBC Iplayer issues

Hi Everybody.

I've been having some issues with my Sky Q box that started very recently. Have an LG G4 Oled tv and LG USC9S Soundbar. Had the Sky Q connected via the HDMI pass through on the sound bar and into the EARC HDMI on the TV. Worked well like this for several months, but over the last nine days, when powered up using the sky remote, the picure flashes repetedly. Sometimes on power up I got a blue screen with "This screen does not support HDCP". Tried a few hard power downs of the Sky box, on the first reset I just got snow on the screen, after a few more resets it came good. Anyhow I discovered that if I swapped the Sky HDMI cable into its own HDMI port on the TV, it would power up ok without the flicker. tried new cables, no difference.

The only issue I have now is BBC Iplayer on the Sky Q box will not play live TV, nor rewind the channel. I just get a black screen. It will play content correctly. I've tried a box reset, the one that retains recordings, and re logged into Iplayer, but the result is the same. Do I need a new sky Q box ? Its the original, several years old.

I don't think the switch to going directly to the TV willl have had any effect on iPlayer & I have no idea why it is not working.

I know it can be less convient but I do gerneraly suggest that people use the TV's own inbuilt apps as these are usually tuned to the TVs and often provide better features (such as Dolby Vision but this, of course, is not applicable to iplayer) - also most people TVs (or other devices such as Roku & Firesticks) are more modern Tech.

All SKY Q boxes as now several years old

The box is now taking an excessive time to power on from an overnight standby, and displaying a blue screen on power on saying it does not suppoer HDCP. If I leave it powered on for several minutes, then toggle off/on, it does come on, but with a few flashes on and off. I've ordered a replacment box. Its lasted well, lets hope the replacement is as good as this one has been. The fault smacks of tired Capacitors in the Switched mode power supply, a common problem on its predecessor Sky HD boxes.

Having exactly same issue with iplayer on SkyQ box. Started yesterday. Can play any iplayer content, but nothing live - screen just goes black. iplayer works fine through firestick and tablet, but not SkyQ box.

I have the same issue. I notice there was a change to the version on 4th September. I assume there is an error in the update.

Q box version is 39.25.1.0

Same version works fine if I access through my tv rather than the Q box

Can each of you try the following.

Go into iPlayer

On left menu go to settings

Select iPlayer beta and turn it ON.

Exit iPlayer without playing any content

Start iPlayer

Check that the iPlayer Beta is still ON.

Play your live content.

If it works, you can either stay on iPlayer beta or turn it off.

If you don't run it off, exit iPlayer without playing any content and start iPlayer again to play content.

If you run with iPlayer beta ON, reverse the procedure above.

The iPlayer beta ON/OFF does set a cache type return flag that sometimes helps with small glitches.

Thanks for the suggestion but no difference whether I have Beta ON or OFF.

I'll just need to watch the rugby via my tv app for the time being

I'm having exactly the same issue, black screen when trying to watch the rugby live through Sky Q. It's been like this since last weekend, however today I have discovered that if I go to 'Watch from start' and then press the fast forward button and then play, the picture comes back and you can then watch it live!! A rather annoying quirk!!

My replacement Sky Q box delivered on 6/9 did not have the Iplayer issue, however, it has now updated to the latest software version and lo and behold, the Iplayer App is now broken like before.

That's not a normal Q box version number?

When logged into the iPlayer app, the picture does not display (black screen), only the program information is dislayed when clicking on live? All other apps re ITX, 5 etc work OK.

Looks like IPlayer updated to a new version about 5pm on 10th September. I guess I'll find out if that fixed it for me at the weekend when there will be live Sport

Why do you need to wait for live sport at the weekend? You can try any current live transmission

I really only use IPlayer for Sport that aren't shown on the main channel. I know the rugby will be live on IPlayer this weekend so will check then
