I have a Sky Q box and mini box.

I've just bought an LG 55 inch nanocell tv and am not 100% sure whether .the HDMI cable that was included is a 2.0 compatible HDMI cable. I believe that's whats needed (as opposed to a 1.4 DHDMI cable) to receive UHD. I'm not even sure the t.v is uhd. Lg customer service as far as I am aware are not available at the weekends to ask..

As well as the above I wonder how much I would have to pay for UHD . Whilst I'm onto Sky I think I will ask for a more competitive all in price

As well as the above I wonder how much I would have to pay for UHD . Whilst I'm onto Sky I think I will ask for a more competitive all in price

hi @Mask+36

If your SKY Q box is UHD capable you can set it to UHD (2160) irrespective of the subscription (your box would just upscale the non UHD content rather then the TV doing this)

To check which box you have -

Home - Settings - System Info - Hardware Version

If it is 32Cxxx then you have an older 1TB non-UHD Box
If it is 32B0xxx then you have a (V1) UHD but non HDR 2TB Box
If it is 32B1xxx then you have a (V2) UHD HDR 2TB Box (which has a separate Power supply)
If it is 32B2xxx then you have a (V3) UHD HDR 1TB or 2TB Box

I am not sure about the non UHD box but all the UHD boxes come with an HDMI 2.0 cable (although like all electronics there can be th odd fault with the odd 1 or 2)

If you let us know the model number of your TV, we should be able to find out if it is UHD capable (it is highly likely that it is)

List price for UHD is £4 per month but this is on top of the mandatory HD add on (list price £9) - although you may be able to negotiate a discount

So are you just having problems seeing anything from the SKy Q box ?

Have you selected the correct HDMI input - if I read the manual correctly the button on the remote is the onw which looks like the end of the HDMI cable just above the coloured keys.

If you haven't done so, may I suggest you take out the HDMI cable from both the SKY Q box & the TV and re-insert it to both

I would rather not remove and replace the hdmi cables because knowing me I would mess everything up . I might however have a go after the footy tomorrow as I dont want to miss that

I am grateful for you putting up with me.

@Chodley

The problem is entirely me ! I have to relearn a new tv . I had no problems with the old t.v . I wanted to treat myself and have a new larger screen t.v. I can watch all the channels and on Sky and there's nothing wrong as such.

I just wasn't sure whether the hdmi cable that was supplied by L.G was 2.0 in order to to watchchannels in UHD. The old tv wasnt a uhd t.v .I currently watch programmes in HD .

Thanks for your input. I am grateful

Ok so it's working fine?

The HDMI cable that comes with a Sky box can handle UHD and HDR. In fact most hdmi cables ever made will be fine. It's only a spec to show "we've tested this at XXX Megabits per second and it carried a clean signal". Even ones that were never certified at 2.0 or 2.1 might be fine.

It's not really possible to mess it up. Just power things down when you unplug them as there is a 9V line on an HDMI cable and even a tiny arc isn't very friendly to electronics.
