Why when I adjust the volume on either my sky or tv remote does it put my skybox into standby mode?

Clearly not behaviour we would expect.

Although this should not cause it, in case the TV is sending signals indicating it is switching off (when changing volume) when it shouldn't be, try setting this to off:

Home - Settings - Setup - Preferences : Smart Standby Mode

Or it could be your Sky Q remote pairing is not set correctly or has lost its pairing.

Try repairing your Sky Q remote and see if that helps, namely the third tab on this Sky help article;

Perosnally I don't think this sounds like a loss of pairing.

I can't see how loss of remote pairing would cause a TV's own remote to shutdown the SKY Q box
