Sky Q remote wont pair?

The 7 & 9 action worked but the 1 & 3 is not bringing up the menu? Any ideas?

Just checking that the red led below the SKY Logo button flashed when you reset the remote.

If it did then you need to be aware that the remote then relies on Infrared until paired & thus needs clear line of sight of the box until re-paired

Yes it flashed 4 times with 7&9 then flashes also with 1&3 but no screen instructions appear. I have a clear line of sight to the box.

Do any buttons now work (in IR mode) - if so navigate to

Home - Settings - Setup - Remote Control - SKY Q remote

which should take you to the Setup page to re-pair

No buttons are working so stuck on one channel and can't access any menus either

hi @Philco61

Have you completely powered down (unplugged or Switched off at mains) the SKY Box ?

Yes but not the full 10 mins power down - just a couple of mins. Also checked batteries.

After the reset, have you tried using the remote without trying the 1 & 3 re-pair ?

(I suspect you have but just wanted to check)

Yep nothing works. I have other remotes (mini box) but don't want to try it as I may end up with both not working.

I understand why you might be reluctant but this might help us to track down if it is a remote or a box problem.,

My first suggestion below does not risk anything

With the main remote, just after a reset and in IR mode , can you try just using it with the mini (without trying to pair it) to see if you can change channel etc.

If that doesn't work then it would indicate a remote issue

So re-boot (10mins power off) then try another remote but without "un pairing" from mini box?

@Philco61 yes to the power down reboot

Do not tryusing the mini remote at this point

At this point (or just while the main box is rebooting) I am suggesting you reset the MAIN Q remote but do not press 1 & 3 and do not try to pair & try using the Main remote (with line of sight) to operate the mini (if reset properly it should be in IR mode & should operate the mini)

Next steps will depend on that test

I'll try a proper reboot now. But can't try main remote on mini box until it comes back on anyway?

Good point - most functions do rely on a connection to the main box , although some like power on /off should still work - however probably best to wait until the main box has rebooted

Did full 10 mins reboot. Main remote still doesn't work with either box. 1&3 has no effect on main box. Mini remote doesn't work on main box either.

As a bit of background I tried to re pair as volume button stopped working on remote and couldn't re - pair with my sound bar. Maybe should have mentioned it??

@Philco61 when you say mini remote doesn't work on the main box either, is that after resetting the mini remote or just trying it 'as is' - if the latter it would not work unless it has been reset or set to infrared only (which was going to be one my suggestions)

Did the 'main' remote work with the mini box (after the remote was reset but without trying to pair) ?

One thing that may (or may not help if your main box is failing) is to try using SKY Go to control the box - both iOS & Android versions of SKY Go now have an option for a 'Virtual remote' - the mobile device must be on the same network as the boxes to do this

Thanks but this should not cause any issues.

I regularly reset my remotes & repair them when I try things out to go through suggestions I make here

Main remote didn't work with mini box

Reluctant to reset mini box remote in case I can't re pair or IR not working on there either.

it needs to be on a mobile device with reasonably up to date versions of iOS for Apple edvices or Android for non Apple

As mentioned the device must be on the same network as your boxes

I use Android on both my phone & tablet there is a remote icon at the top right - click on this.

It probably defaults to the main box but if you click on the cog (top left) you should get an option to choose which box
