I want to add a new Q box to my multi room, the box is free but there is a £50 set up fee. As yet there has been no member of the help team can actually tell me what they have to set up, all you do is plug the box into the telly Add it to your WiFi and away you go. Maybe someone in the community can actually tell me why they need to charge £50 to set up when there is nothing their end needs doing.

The £50 per mini is actually a charge for viewing on additional TV.

Its sometimes waived for the first mini but usually charged on additional ones.

Presumably it's in reality a hardware subsidy to help Sky cover the cost of having manufactured some tens of millions of Mini boxes to go out on 'free' loan, which earns no additional monthly revenue from the second , third and fourth subsequent box once Multiscreen and the first Mini is in place at an address.

Whatever the reason, it's a charge that's been in place since Q was released in early 2016 and so isn't going to change now.

They are actually in business to make money, after all.

Hi @thechipman0 I have always seen it as an admin fee, not a set up fee. With inflation, the admin fee has reduced, if not it would be £67.60 now.

@thechipman0 and a slight correction in that you don't connect the mini to your WiFi, it connects to the Sky Q's internal WiFi

So why don't they tell you this instead of **bleep** saying its a connection fee. They are doing themselves from customers that won't pay a connection fee as there isno connection they need to do. If they say the truth that it is extra because of so and so I would probably of paid.

Yes it would, I won't pay a connection fee as they don't do any connecting. If they told me it was an admin fee I would pay it.

It doesn't really matter. If you want to be loaned another box then that's the charge...

Right. Makes perfect logical sense.

You either want one enough to pay £50 or you don't. What they call the fee (it's obviously going to cost them something to handle it and ship it but who knows or cares what that cost actually is) is classic business speak nonsense, and you already called it two different things in this thread yourself.
