Just too dear

Oct 2024 we got a 24 month offer but the prices just keep rising .

It's a 24 month contract so what's the craic in canceling ..will I be able to cancel six months in to the contract and if so will there be a penalty to pay ?

You cannot cancel TV contracts if you've agreed a minimum term.

Sky's prices are not fixed - as per the terms you've agreed.

Then they'll pursue you for the debt, potentially to court.

Remember you agreed the contract...

If you have a Direct Debit set up and the payment fails on the normal payment date Sky will automatically attempt it again 10 calendar days later. After 10 days, if that second attempt also fails Sky may send a text and/or email notifying you that your payment has failed again and you then have a day or two at best before they restrict your services.

If you have a Continuous Card payment method set up, if the payment fails Sky send the text/email notification about the failed payment and you usually have at best 2/3 days before being restricted. There is no grace period and I believe only 1 attempt is made for a card payment, so if this has failed, you will need to pay manually and then reset the payment method for next month.

Restrictions are an automated process and we’ve been told Customer Service agents can’t stop it… even if you’re told otherwise on the phone. Sky don’t allow payment plans (except on a legitimately closed account) or a promise to pay on or by a certain date.

I'm in n.ireland..we don't have debt collectors here.

Never heard of sky taking anyone to court over here.

Sky will have some process in place to get any outstanding payments that are due. You've agreed a TV subscription. The latest T’s and C’s explicitly state you can’t cancel when still in a minimum term deal unless Sky agree. If they agree you’ll have to pay the remainder of your discounted term (in one payment ).

Not paying Sky bills is not going to make to local news.

@mdc4566 There are many debt collection companies in Northern Ireland.

If you default on your payments then Sky can use legal means to recover what is owed.

If you are experiencing genuine financial issues then you need to speak to debt professionals(there are many free services available) that can liaise with creditors and potentially come to an agreement to cancel without penalty(there is of course no guarantee of that outcome).
