Can't turn Panasonic off with Sky Q remote

Hi all

I connected a new Panasonic TX-32MS490B to my Sky Q mini box in the bedroom yesterday. Managed to pair the Sky remote ok. Only snag is, when I turn off the TV, it asks for confirmation that I want it to go to standby....which needs the Panasonic controller. I tried a workaround but the best I can do is to set the TV to go to standby 5 minutes after there is no input (the shortest time available). This means I have "No input" showing on the TV for 5 minutes every time I turn it off.

It's a small problem but it's driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @Kingston

Have you experimented with different amount of time you are holding the Q remote standby button. I know here with a Sony TV if you hold it too long it asked if you want to reboot.

It needs a precise 3 secs to turn off TV. Any longer and it will reboot.

@Kingston I have just tried reading your TV operations to see if you can change a setting but can't spot one (although there may be one)

As @oldfella suggests I would recommend trying holding the button for different lengths of time to see if a specific length of time works

Having just had a quick look at the manual for your TV, it appears to have two methods of going into standby and the 'quick standby' method (which doesn't require you to confirm) can only be done by a quick single press of the standby button on the TV's remote.

Sky Q remotes require a long press of the standby button to turn a TV off so I think this is where the confusion is arising.

You could try a few of the other Panasonic TV codes to pair with your minibox remote. It can often be the case that another model's remote codes work better and may be able to send a 'quick standby' signal.

Hi all

I reset everything, retuned the remote, and tried different press times on the Sky remote. No joy, so I'll just have to live with seeing "No Input Signal" for 5 minutes until it auto shuts down the TV on my workaround (go standby if no signal for 5 minutes).

Now I'm working on the issue of low brightness dull screen on the Sky feed (been going through the Sky forums, settings/accessibility/high contrast on with no luck).

Thanks for your suggestions, I just wouldn't recommend this 32" tv to use with Sky Q

Have just got a new Panasonic TV, which is a similar model to yours: TX-48MZ800B

Pleased in some way that I am not mad or stupid and that you trod this path before me.

Akin to you I am having issues turning the TV off with the Sky Q remote.

Have you made any progress on that? Did another code work for you?

This seems like the best explanation to the issue.

The only fix can come from Sky updating their Panasonic codes with ones suited to our (M) models of TVs.

Unless there is a code for another TV which works with the M versions.

i.e. My Panasonic's TX-48MZ800B could work with TX-48K608B's remote code

Otherwise we cannot turn our TV's off with our Sky Q remote.

my MZ980 worked with the first code when using the Find it for me option (as does my GZ950)

Edit: also just checked and my TV remote for my GZ950 works my MZ980 so Panasonic have not changed codes

No progress I'm afraid. I just switch the box off & leave the bedroom. 5 minutes later the tv turns itself off with no input.

You don't just use the TV remote? Which by the way will also turn the Sky box off if you just turn the TV off.

You probably no longer have this issue, or even the tv anymore, but on buying a new Panasonic I encountered the same problem. Upgrading from an older model the Sky remote appeared to control the volume etc, but tv would not turn off. Short / long pressing just turned off the sky box and a message no input found was displayed.

Following the remote setup route, the model was not given as an option in the drop down menu. Letting the box find my set, there were 23 possible codes on offer. Ploughing through each in turn was tiresome, not each one controlled the volume and was discounted. The earlier offerings were rejected and it wasn't until code 16 that I hit the jackpot. Now a press on the standby button until the tv green led flashes then releasing results in the tv turning off.

Model TV-65Z95AEB.

Only posting this so that anyone in similar position can jump straight to the solution for this model.

Yes the problem was never solved. I simply press the Sky Controller once briefly to turn on the TV and press it briefly to turn it off. It then says no source & spends 5 minutes before putting itself off. It's in the bedroom so we're asleep or out as it counts down so it doesn't bother us. I'd never get a Panasonic tv for the lounge as it would annoy me.
There is a person answering on this thread who keeps saying just have the tv controller to turn the tv off but he doesn't get the point that we want one controller, especially if space is tight.

I actually didn't realise I posted on this twice. I understand you want one remote. But I didn't understand why, if that's not possible, using power for 5 minutes is a preferred to just using the TV remote but space on the bedside cabinet makes sense.

fwiw I use 2 Panasonic TVs and they don't have this problem but maybe it's a new model thing.

Note to myself. I must double check before posting a solution. Well it turned out that code 16 was no longer controlling the volume this morning. Bizarre! Trying other codes and 7 appears to work for both on and off and volume. We shall see what tomorrow brings. If I could I would edit earlier post but it does not seem possible. Sorry for any confusion caused.
