Hi all , I have sky q ( not 4k ) and a brand new Samsung neo Qled TV , I've noticed picture noise on a couple of channels but mainly on parts of the picture showing red for example sky sports news in the morning they were sat on red chairs , the red was speckly ( noise ) watched Gangs of London the other night and a bit in that there was a dark scene but a green light on , that had speckly noise , other channels are all good and can't see any picture noise at all on any other channels or films etc , I've turned on ( noise reduction ) and it's fixed it but I've never had this in the past and I'm using same hdmi cable , I prefer noise reduction off and I'm not sure what could cause this ....

Bigger tv than before? Is this HD? Settings or picture processing on the TV possibly?

You've said this happens on a couple of channels.

Do you have the Ultra UH (4k) pack from Sky, so could this be limited to the UHD channels and the basic HD channels are ok?

If that's the case, it might be your HDMI cable isn't fully seated or just not up to spec. It's possible there's uHD specific settings on the TV that are awry (although speckly reds aren't really desirable in any settings), or possibly the TV has a fault of some kind.

In any case, it's worth putting some time into narrowing down the causing factors for this, and that should help identify the resolution.

Thanks for your replies , watching sky news this morning and noticed this picture noise on the white background, I've tried another hdmi cable and still the same and I only have sky q hd , turning on noise reduction in the TV settings sorts this but I don't like using that setting

Does the same thing happen with NetFlix/YouTube etc using your TVs built-in apps? Let's take Sky Q out of the equation altogether and see whether it's Sky or your TV that's causing this.

I agree with you about the noise reduction setting, I don't think it should cause this level of disruption for you and it's a setting best left off when it comes to picture quality.

It's probably just the new TV is showing up the compression artefacts more clearly

I asked earlier if it was a bigger screen?

Yes I had a 50 inch now I have a 55 inch with different technology edge lit compared to back lit , I'll try netflix tomorrow and see how that looks

Well , I've tried a few things , unplugged all other things connected to the TV even the TV coax and still the same , tried a few channels today and for example whilst watching the same channel one clip will be ok the next will have a slight snowy effect , tried it on showcase and witness hd channels and same on both , one clip is fine , next is slight pic noise , even some adverts are like that , some absolutely fine some slight pic noise

If it's a new issue then it appears to be how the new TV is processing the input. Whether it's 'faulty' could be debatable.

was it the the old one that was edge-lit I assume?

How far away are you sitting when these artefacts are visible? The variability sounds pretty normal to be honest.

How did things look with Netflix and non-Sky content?

Well I tried netflix via the app on sky q and noticed some fuzzy picture noise on dark areas , back on sky q one minute I can see some fuzzy noise then next minute it's clear , if I had an issue with lnb or cable I'm presuming it would do it all the time , putting noise reduction on low makes it perfect so I have a choice of either NR on low or put up with this whenever it happens

Thanks for your reply, yeah it's a strange one , sky sports news in the morning and they're normally sat on red chairs , the red looks fuzzy as if its alive lol but then change over to itv1 hd and it's totally fine , newscaster on itv1 hd at 10 tonight had a red top on , zero fuzziness on that red , think it's definitely artifacts like you say rather than cable or lnb issue , just need to make the choice of using NR or not , could increase the sharpness slightly if I do to try compensate , thanks
