Hi @Winnie13568

Gigaclear Linksys help.

1. Disable Sky Q’s Eco mode

Sky Q Eco mode can sometimes interfere with connectivity. Disabling it ensures a more stable connection.

How to do it:

1. Press the Home button on your Sky Q remote.

2. Navigate to Settings > Preferences.
3. Set Standby Mode to None.

2. Turn off the 2.4 GHz WiFi on the Sky Q mini boxes

Sky Q mini boxes work best when connected via 5 GHz WiFi or ethernet. Disabling the 2.4 GHz can reduce interference and improve performance. This adjustment forces the Sky Q mini boxes to use only the faster 5 GHz WiFi for stability and connectivity.

How to do it:

1. Press the Home button on your Sky Q remote.

2. Go to Settings (but do not confirm yet).
3. Enter 001 on your remote, then press Select to open the hidden Engineer Menu.

4. On the Network page, locate the 2.4GHz wireless, and set it to Off.

5. Press Back or Home to exit the menu.

3. Hardwire your Sky Q system to the Linksys router

Why hardwire your Sky Q system?

1. Stable connection – no interference, no dropouts

2. Better streaming – smoother playback, less buffering
3. Bypasses WPA2/WPA3 issues – no security protocol mismatch

How to do it:

1. Connect an ethernet cable from your Sky Q main box to your Linksys router’s ethernet port. If possible, connect the Sky Q mini boxes via ethernet as well.

2. Press the Home button on your Sky Q remote.
3. Go to Settings (but do not confirm yet).

4. Enter 001 on your remote, then press Select to open the hidden Engineer Menu.

5. On the Network page, locate the 2.4GHz wireless and 5GHz wireless and set both to Off.

So I've just been on the phone to tech support and they ran me through point 2. This however won't work and when I reconnect to my network the box seems to reactivate 2.4GHz on its own and he can't work it out so has booked an engineer for next appointment in 3 weeks....

absolute pain

My post was from Gigaclear help(not my own thoughts).

However regarding your Question:-

You cannot turn off the 2.4 Ghz on the main Q box. It needs this to connect to the router as Sky Q will not connect to the 5Ghz band when using non Sky Broadband.

If you did turn it off this would explain why it would come back on.

Edit

the above is assuming you are not connecting your main Q box by Ethernet.

I even checked with the technician guy on the phone and he was adament I had to switch it off on both Sky Q and Mini boxes. I'm at a loss I really am as to why it doesn't work but i'm not surprised. Is it me or has Sky Q really deteriorated over the past couple of years with connectivity especially with the mini boxes.

I'm genuinly tired of it and just want my contract to be absolved so i can leave.

Thanks for trying though

I have used Gigaclear for a year or so but I don't have a problem because I wired my house with Ethernet. I also replaced the inferior Linksys MX5500s with TP-Link Deco 6E XE75 routers.

Note, you could try connecting the Main Sky Q box by Ethernet to one of the child Linksys MX5500 nodes.

I need to get a longer power cable for the Sky box because the GigaClear installer put the router too far away from the box and TV... seriously couldnt make this stuff up.

I had a question with regard the Sky Q mini box. If i use an Ethernet Cable to connect the Linksy to the SKY Q box, should i use an Ethernet Cable to the other Linksy (Booster) and Sky Mini Box?

I ask because i read that if you use the Ethernet Cable to connect the Sky Q box then i need to deactivate the 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz which means they wont be able to talk to the minibox. Or am i missing something?

Thanks for your help

If the Minis are connected by WiFi then you cannot turn off the 5GHz band (okay to turn off the 2.4GHz band). I don't have a problem because I am completely Ethernet with all WiFi turned off on Main & Mini Sky Q boxes. I have an unmanaged Ethernet switch connected to all Sky Q boxes, and the switch is connected to the router for internet access.

Thankyou for trying to help me.

I totally understand and explains a lot.

Of you have the possibility then it's certainly ideal to have Ethernet connected to your other Linksys router and also the mini.

I have Gigaclear here.

I have Ethernet connection between the main Linksys router and the Linksys smart WiFi (both MX5500).

Also Ethernet connected to a mini.

All Q WiFi is off on all boxes.

No connectivity issues.
