Partition Sky Q recordings?

Good Afternoon,

I'm considering changing from Sky HD+ to Sky Q but, if I understand the reviews correctly, any recordings from the mini-boxes are lumped together on the main Q box.

Is this still correct, please, and is there anyway to partition them?

BTW: In case you are wondering, at the present time I have multi-room and one of the "extra" boxes is used by my Son who has a learning dis-ability. Unfortunately he likes to record everything he watches, even though he seldom views any of the recordings!

This is not a problem at the moment, as his own box's hard drive just fills up and then over writes the oldest recording.

However, if his recordings appear on the Sky Q main box, mixed in with others from me, this is going to cause great confusion and may lead to my recordings being wiped. Hence the need for partitioning!

No, unfortunately Q has no concept of profiles/users or partitioning.

Recordings are only stored on the main Q box and the mini acts as a slave. (Sky+ multiroom has separate hard drives)

Sky Q miniboxes have no hard drive. All recordings are saved on the single hard drive on the main Q box and streamed to the miniboxes. You cannot partition them in any way.

The others have given you the unfortunate news regarding the lack of any type of separation of recordings

Hi @Tight+Git Back in 2016, profiles were shown on the published development timeline. I think that we can safely say, that after 9 years it has well and truly dropped off.

Maybe one piece of good news - the 2TB hard drive on the Q can hold a LOT of recordings.

and the access to catchup means recordings are much less important than they used to be. You can also hit Keep on something you don't want auto-deleted hut you probably know that from Sky+

I don't know how severe your son's disability is but you might also want to consider the complexity of the Q UI compared to Sky+

and the fact its wifi connection between the two boxes can be extremely frustrating. If you can't use powerlines or ethernet between the rooms and the router too.
