For some reason he could see almost everything much much clearer than watching a SL game every week.I was wondering because it was broadcast from USA does that alter the quality etc of the broadcast ??

He has HD and a new 50 inch tv,just the one and he sits about 4 feet from the tv.The mystery is that it was just that particular broadcast which was live from Las Vegas that he was able to see much clearer than normal.

Was it just the on screen text that was clearer or the whole broadcast?

I thought the picture quality looked lower than normal, not surprising as Sky were using coverage from Fox in Australia, and the match was taking place in Las Vegas, so it was going all over the world before getting to the UK. However the on screen graphics from Fox were bigger than the normal UK graphics, perhaps that's why it seemed clearer?
