I'm leaving sky for Freesat and wanting to replace my sky Q lnb, I currently want to feed a 10 year old Samsung TV and 3 year old LG TV, a universal lnb works fine in both TV,s , but I will possibly add a 4k Freesat recorder and want to recorder 3 channels while watching one, do I need a hybrid lnb, TIA

hi @Phil3580

The Freesat 4K boxes work with both Universal LNBs as well as Wideband so you just need enough connections on a Universal LNB

If you want a Freesat 4K receiver to be able to record 3 channels whilst watching a 4th channel it will need to be connected to both the Vertically polarised channel outputs and the Horizontally polarised channel outputs of a Wideband LNB source.

Your Freesat TVs will require to be fed from a Legacy Universal LNB source.

So yes, you will need to change the existing Wideband LNB for a Hybrid LNB.

Thanks Godfrey, I had initially tried a universal quad LNB, that worked, so I ran a dual cable from the dish to the other TV in anticipation checked it out and that worked, when I tried the SkyQ lnb I didn't get anything, so in order to future proof it, I want to get the correct lnb, as I'm sure my wife will eventually want a 4k recorder, I've actually seen a hybrid on Amazon for £30, Thanks again, appreciate your help, regards , Phil

hi @Phil3580

Yes universal LNB feeds work with a voltage change and presence or not of a 22Khz tone to select polarity & hi/lo bands, meaning only a approx 1/4 channels are available to the feed.

Whereas the twin cables of a wideband feed providing a polarity each with all frequencies means all frequencies/polarities are always available leading to have more tuners that can be used to record at the same time
