topic Are good, non-smart TVs still available? in Sky Q

As far as I'm concerened, I get all the bells, whistles and - more importantly - apps that I need from right inside of Sky Q. I don't even remember the last time I used any other source on my TV.

I want to buy a new TV but, given the above, it seems to me that I really don't need a 'smart' TV? I just need, in essence, a monitor. However, everywhere I look is awash with smart TVs, with little else on offer, other than low-quality, cheap, non-smart, tellies.

So my question is simple; is it possible to buy a quality non-smart television any more? And, either way, am I wrong to think that that is what I need?

There are very few 'non-smart' TV's.

Frankly, any decent one will have such features.

However, personally, I wouldn't use any of the Q apps. Any native TV app will perform noticeably better than the equivalent Q app.

And once Q is decommissioned you be in a creek without a paddle.

@asc0tracer wrote:

I don't know but I doubt if there are any non smart TVs - although you probably can get monitor panels with sound which do not have any tuner etc. That said a quality monitor is likely to cost similar to a quality smart TV

SKY Q is actually quite old tech and any TV inbuilt apps are very likely to be better and more likely to be optimised for the TV

Should you venture in 4K then most 4K Tvs support Dolby Vision (although I think Samsung only support HDR10+) which are not available via SKY Q boxes

EDIT : As @PandJ2020 points out you may have to consider usage after the SKY Q which has a limited life due to the life expectancy of the Satellites (towards the end of the decade) - although SKY Stream (or similar) might provide what you need

Possibly on the business market for digital display panels, or as @nigea99 indicates sold as a computer monitor (but then it wouldn't have a DTTV tuner)

'Hospitality television' sets typically didn't have an app interface because the premises don't want responsibility for stored credentials, but you'd pay a significant premium.

https://www.hoteltvcompany.co.uk/hospitality-tvs/lg-tvs/lg-non-smart-tvs/
