The recording was between 12 and 1pm, so it should have been well finished before I found the box unresponsive at 2pm and had to power off. The red record light was not showing, just the amber standby light, so the recording was not happening when I powered off. Once rebooted the recording would not play at all. In the past when there has been a power cut part way through a recording, I have been able to play back up to when the power went. Am I therefore right in assuming for this to have happend the box would have had to powered inself off just as the recording was about to start? If so it is quite a coincidence.

Power Cut! What Power Cut?

I tried to turn on my Sky Q box yesterday afternoon but nothing was responsive. I rebooted and it all worked fine but when I went to watch a programme I had recorded earlier that day it had failed. The reason stated was due to a power cut but there was no power cut. (I know this as the cooker and microwave clocks always need re-setting after a power cut.) I checked around the box and there were no loose cables and nothing that would have caused a local power cut to the device. All power switches are well hidden behind the TV cabinet and not eaily accessable. What caused the Sky Q box to fail?

They do that sometimes. (The 'power cut' was your power cycle and the recording was marked as such)

Please excuse my non-techy ignorance but what is a power cycle? Can this be prevented or is it something we have to live with?
