Issue with Sky Q UHD picture

Hello.

I've just got a new LG Oled (B4) TV and I'm having periodic issues on the sky UHD channels - getting a weird 'oilslick' style picture (see pic). Sometimes it disappears then it comes back another time.

I've set the HDMI input on the TV to 4k (rather than off) and the sky UHD setting is 10 bit. Does anyone have any thoughts on resolving this??

Hi @RDB6

Try a Reset Settings in the Q box hidden menu.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Only Carry out the first Reset (Reset Settings) as the other two will wipe all recordings.
After the Reset you will have to re pair your Bluetooth remote If you use one.
If you cannot switch the Q box on with the remote after the Reset press the Standby button (Amber led) on the front of the box.
To re pair the remote press 1 & 3 together on the remote and follow onscreen instructions to re pair.

Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box when you press 1 & 3 together.

Resetting the settings will also reset:

Audio visual settings, such as picture resolution and HDMI control
Settings changed within the hidden engineer menu, include LNB type. If on a communal dish you need to reset the LNB to SCR in the hidden menu. After changing the LNB type you need to reboot the Q box.

I'm having the same issue, just started today. I've tried a brand new cable also. Was working perfectly this morning and have not changed any settings. I also have an LG OLED TV

It works ok on 8 bit, but that's not HDR is it?

Correct @RDB6

You need 10 bit for HDR

8 bit will only give UHD SDR

If 8bit 'works' then it points the finger at how the TV is processing HLG. (I'm assuming you have a HDR box)

Ensure the TV has the latest firmware (LG firmware changes quite frequently)

It was the darts and then on tonight's Brighton / Arsenal game. Often a little play on the settings or switching sky box off and back on fixes it. Until the next time! Bizarre!

Yes it was. Must be something to do with the HDMI handshaking between the Sky Q box and the LG TV. I don't think it's an LG issue. What is the hardware version of your box? I have a Sky Q 2TB box with version 32B107

I could "resolve" the issue by toggling to 8 bit and then back to 10 bit

Certainly am not impressed - may phone Sky next week. Let me know your box version

If it only happens on LG TVs (speculating since we have very little to go on) then it absolutely could be a specific issue with their HLG processing.

The bit I don't understand is that the issue comes and goes. It works sometimes. I could understand if it was continuously a problem, but it's happy sometimes! Strange.

If there is anyone browsing this page who has an LG OLED TV and Sky Q who does NOT have this problem would be good to know your hardware type /version. Not sure whether there is any practical difference but helpful nevertheless to see if any patterns

oled48c34la, and I have a different though related problem.

The UHD resolution is 8bit and I have no option for 10bit.

My Sky Q box doesn't appear to recognize the 10bit so there is no discernible difference in UHD channel from normal HD.

Very different from Samsung UHD 4K tv I had and when you switched between UHD and HD.

Any advice as to how I can get SKY Q box to recognize/connect to 10 bit signal?

@lodge2000 you need to go into the menu on your lg tv and turn on the hdmi ultra hd deep color for the hdmi that you have the q box connected to this should then bring the 10bit option up
