Connecting via Ethernet

I was wondering whether it's possible to connect my sky q box via Ethernet but still have my mini box connected via WiFi or if they both have to be connected via the same method.

Yes @Joshabi

You can have the main Q box on Ethernet cable and the Mini on WiFi.

Any ideas how to turn wifi off on sky q box. I connected Ethernet from router to q box but keeps defaulting to wifi. Thanks

Hi @Joshabi

When all boxes are connected by Ethernet you can then switch off all Q box WiFi.

Start with main Q box and first carry out a Network reset with the Ethernet connected.
Network Reset found in Q box Home - Settings - Setup - Network.
Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right hand side. Select connect wired to non Sky Router (or Sky router if on Sky Broadband). Do not carry out any WPS and just wait for the box to connect. It may take a couple of minutes. If it does not connect there is an issue with the Ethernet connection.
As soon as it connects go into the Q box hidden menu and turn off WiFi.

To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

Hi @PETE129 In theory yes, but as the box itself decides the best route, it may keep trying to use the WiFi connection. However if your ISP is not Sky, you could try turning off just the 2.4 GHz band. You cannot turn off the 5 GHz band because that is being used by the Mini box.

I have connected my main sky Q box to my router via ethernet cable but I have 2 mini boxes which are connected to the main box via WiFi.

How do I switch WiFi off the boxes or off the main box?

How do I know if my main box is using ethernet or WiFi?

If you do either of those things, the Minis will stop working.

1) Press the ‘Home’ button on your remote control.
2) Scroll down to highlight ‘Settings’ but DO NOT press select.
3) Press ‘001’.
4) Press ‘Select’

Then: Network -

- 2.4Ghz wireless - Off

- 5Ghz wireless - Off

I should do that on the main box only and leave the 2 minus boxes connected to the main box via WiFi alone?

Mini boxes still work if I close down the WiFi on the main box?

hi @mE182

In which case you must not switch off the wifi on the man box as it is the main box that provides the (private) wifi network that the minis use to connect it & each other

Or use powerlines, ethernet or mesh nodes (via ethernet) to connect them.
