NEW SKY Q 2TB BOX

I got rid of Sky Q 2 years ago or just shy of that time frame and have today signed back up to Sky Q (Sky Signature, HD & Netflix No Ads for £47.50 a month) and the advisor informed me that it will be a BRAND NEW 2TB box (as I paid £99 for this which included installation etc) and will come with the new Sky Q Voice Remote and Touch Remote as both the old and new boxes came with two remotes if you went for the 2TB.

I watched a video and it only shows someone with this new HDR box (that I've been promised) coming with the voice remote.

Can anyone with this box advise if the advisor is true, and if I can get a nice case for it like I had with my old boxes remotes. I returned it all to Sky when I left.

The touch remotes haven't been manufactured or dispatched for a good few years (mine is still going strong 🤞).

hi @James_365

You won;t get a Touch remote - they were discontinued many years ago.

You only get 1 Voice remote per box (now with Blue button on the front)

I think you are very unlikely to get a brand new 2TB box as I am not sure they have any - much more likely to be a refurbished box

I've watched a DavidMarfe video where he had issues with this and had four boxes sent overall (three had issues of one or another be it scuffed boxes or not working with feed off dish).

Has Sky changed the dishes or are they still the large round ones?

Wish I could have kept my box, which I thought at the time was not loaned... especially if paying for it.

I wonder also if the dish size has changed or not

of course some customers may get more than their share of problems but that is not typical

SKY have not used round dishes since SKY Analogue. (from Astra 19E)

The size of the dish depends on where you are located - I am not too sure where the line for the larger dish is - I will see if I can find an old post where it is mentioned but I may not be able to. (you can probably tell by dishes local to you)

BTW AFAIK Size of dishes used has not changed since the switch to digital

Hi @James_365 If you want the latest box then you need to go for the 1TB box. I suspect that they have not manufactured any new (32B2xx) 2TB boxes for ages. The Sky dish size has not changed for decades.

I was informed that the boxes are both "latest editions" and for me I like the flexibility of having more storage for things, even if I don't use it all up. And he told me many customers who've been helped by him go this way too as it's not "1Tb" in full when setup.

Surely they'd know and not try things on too much

I don't know wha the size of my dish was but it seemed big. My home had it when I moved in albeit built around 2000/2001, i moved in 9 years ago.

Im guessing itll be the same as neighbours so

not terrible and im In Edinburgh

Hard drives never are their full manufacturing capacity once formatted, and Sky reserves a portion for its own use anyway. A 1TB Sky drive has about 700GB user space, and a 2TB is actually about 1.7TB

Hi @James_365 Just to be clear, if you want a 2TB box then there is a good chance that you will be loaned a refurished box. Normally the 32B1xx ES240 with the external power supply. If you do get the 32B2xx ES340 2TB box, then please come back and let us know, as that is good to know.

Hi @Doc5907 I have a 32B2xx ES340 2TB (cost me £50 admin fee) and I have never exceeded 10%. Anything not watched after one month gets deleted. With new material all the time, what's the point.

@MightyQuinnfair enough, I do the same except for one or two documentary series I know probably won't be shown again that I'll 'get round to watching one day'.

I guess you could make do with a 1tb box like me.

Would this be the best option over Sky Stream, as I find it mad that an older system is double the cost (close to at least), and yeah it does offer recording etc and no loss of channels.

Anyone able to give opinion or help on that!?

No-one posting to this forum has any visibility of the Sky logistics chain.

The most recent hardware manufacturing we can be certain of would have been for the release of the 1TB UHD/HDR box released in late 2019.

Clearly after the takeover by Comcast, attention switched to Glass and Stream.

Do you or anyone know when the last version of the 2Tb box came out in comparison to the 1?

also would Sky stream be better?

I do like the option to record and all. Not sure I'd like stream and read lots of "don't do it" style posts
