Unfortunately the fundamental issue is that's a somewhat outdated edge-lit design rather than having an LED array behind the LCD panel. Current TCL models can be extremely bright.

I have a TCL 55C815K and a new Q box as the last one decided to get very hot! If I try to view UHD channels the display brightness drops. Any ideas as to the best settings. In 10 bit mode set displays HGL and Dolby Atmos but is dark despite brightness on 100. its not so bad in 8 bit but then the set doesnt seem to use HLG settings. TIA

Hi @David-clements-59 Are you sure that your TV supports HLG HDR? Looking at its specifications, HLG is not listed.

https://www.epey.co.uk/tv/tcl-55c815k.html

You should also note the maximum brightness is only 400 cd/m2. As a comparison, my old Sony was 1500 cd/m2. I would stick to 8 bit.

https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/bed81f17

so assuming it is HLG capable one thing that we can say is that 400 cd/m2 is too low to get a decent picture through HLG 600 to 700 cd/m2 is the minimum and even higher as per @MightyQuinn is better

Yeah 8bit can't carry HDR. Has to be 10. But 400 nits is too low for HLG

HDR10 and DolbyVision are probably ok on it.
