OK, so after a lot of digging and searching on the internet, and changing a few settings on the TV, I've at last discovered what was going on, and some of the problem was a total lack of easy to access information about the remote, unlike Sky Plus, which had a separate button for TV power, I eventually discovered that the TV power is controlled by the same button as the Sky Box, the difference being the length of the press on the button, and the button on the right is an attempt to change the input option of the TV, which is a bit counter intuitive, as there's no way to then manage the setting from the Sky remote, the TV remote has to be used to exit that option, but at least it's working now, after checking all of the TV settings, one of which was off because the Plus box used to cause problems.

Have a LG SK8100 tv that we've been able to control for years using the Sky remote that was with our Sky + box, but despite spending more time than I appreciate going through all the possible options, I can't find a setting that will allow us to switch the TV off from the Sky remote, and given that we had that option on the Sky + box, I'm less than happy that we can't now control the TV from the Sky Q system, unless I've missed something along the way, the user interface is less than intuitive, and it's not ideal having to keep throwing remotes from one end of the room to the other, which is what we might now have to do in order to control things, which is a retrograde move.

Are we going to have to get more remotes to do what we've been doing for years?

There should be no issue in pairing your Q remote to a LG Television @Irish-Steve

With the Q box on with green led try completly resetting your Bluetooth remote.
Press and hold 7 & 9 together on the remote until it’s led flashes four times.
Then make sure that you are pointing your remote at the Q box and press 1 & 3 together until the remote led flashes and follow onscreen instructions to re- pair.
