Remote won't turn TV off

Recently had my Sky Q set up again after moving home and the remote no longer turns the TV off. I've tried resetting it by holding in 7&8 and then 1&3 but it's not resolved it.

Also, when I first turn the sky on, it no longer goes to the home page it shows recordings I stead. Is there a way I can fix that? It's minor but it annoys me.

Hi @Shell1234

It looks like the Sky Q button is sticking on your remote. This is the Sky Logo button on the remote which takes you direct to recordings.

Thanks for the response, it's not sticking however. I use the sky button when I turn they telly on to turn the sky on. It used to take me to the home page, but now it takes me to the recordings page for some reason.

@Shell1234 thats strange as the Sky logo button has always taken me to the recordings which is what it was supposed to so that may be why it's taking you there now as thats what it is supposed to do 😁

Hi @Shell1234 .

I assume that the Q box is always Off (in Standby with Amber LED) when you are trying to turn the Television on?

The Sky button will only turn the Television on if the Q box is in Standby. Normal response in standby would be for the Q box to come on with the Q Home Screen and Q HDMI control would turn on the Television.
What happens if you turn on the Q box with a short press on the Q remote standby button?

Regarding your original post; It's not 7 & 8 you press to reset the remote it's 7 & 9.

Bear in mind that the Q remote (using a long press) will only turn the Television Off (or On) if the remote is correctly paired to the Television and controls the volume.

You are probably aware that with the Q box HDMI (CEC control), a short press should turn on the Q box which is turn switches on the Television by CEC control.

However when switching Off the Q box with a short press on the remote it will not turn off the television but only turn off the Q box.

The latest Software on the Q boxes now has the feature that if you turn Off the television first then this will also turn the Q box Off.

This is regardless of what method is used when the Television is switched off

With the Television remote
With the Q remote (long press with a correctly paired remote)
TV auto ECO Standby ,etc etc

Edit. To correctly pair the Q remote:-

With the Q box on with green led press and hold 7 & 9 together on the remote until it’s led flashes four times.
Then make sure that you are pointing your remote at the Q box and press 1 & 3 together until the remote led flashes and follow onscreen instructions to re- pair.
