topic Ethernet connection query in Sky Q

Hey everyone, I've tried a search f

to answer my query but cannot find the specific answer.

So I've just had fibre installed (proper fibre) and needed to make sure I have good coverage throughout the house due to all the smart devices I have. To that end I bought a triple pack of TP Link Deco X20's. I am aware of the issues Sky Q has with mesh systems via WiFi hence why I got a 3 pack of Deco's so I could connect the main Sky Q box and mini via Ethernet.

I followed the instructions to connect via Ethernet, which are widely available on here, and the main box has connected and auto generated a new connection name. I then disabled the wifi on the main box.

I then connected the mini via Ethernet upstairs to another node and performed a network reset, however on rebooting it asked me to press select on the mini remote and then go to the main box and press the WPS button. When I did nothing happened because, presumably, the wifi is turned off on the box.

I re-enabled the WiFi on the main box and did a network reset on the mini, with it still connected via Ethernet, and it has connected to the same new network name assigned to the main box. I turned the WiFi off on the main box and again lost the connection upstairs.

Ultimately I'm not bothered if both boxes draw their download streams via wifi or Ethernet from the mesh system so long as they don't drop out which is what I understand can happen with mesh systems but I'm just curious what I'm doing wrong. I followed the guidance but it seems the mini will not connect to the node via Ethernet until I enable wifi on the main box.

I hope that makes sense and thanks for looking in advance 👍
