Sky mini vs main q box

I have a 2tb q box and three mini boxes. One of the mini boxes is on a new 65" tv and the picture quality is not great if I had my main box moved would I get a better image? I get great picture quality from the apps but not when watching normal tv. The tv that the main bix is attached to currently is never used.

Do you have HD/UHD subs?

Mini boxes do not support UHD but there isn't much native UHD material (mainly downloads and sports).

The main box requires satellite feeds - so isn't easy to 'move'...

Yes I have HD and UHD subscriptions.

I am happy to pay sky to reroute the cables but don't want to do it if I'm not going to see an improvement in the image quality.

@James158 i can understand that, is there any way to move the 65 inch to the main box connect it and see what picture you get then you would see for yourself if it was worth it or not

The tv is wall mounted so will be difficult to move. I could disconnect the main box and watch a recording on the 65" to see if that makes a difference.

One thing which will make a big difference is for UHD/HDR content but you need to make sure your box is HDR capable :

Home - Settings - System Info - Hardware Version
If it is 32Cxxx then you have an older 1TB non-UHD Box
If it is 32B0xxx then you have a (V1) UHD but non HDR 2TB Box
If it is 32B1xxx then you have a (V2) UHD HDR 2TB Box (which has a separate Power supply)
If it is 32B2xxx then you have a (V3) UHD HDR 1TB or 2TB Box

Edit This also needs a TV with a peak brightness of at least 600cd/m (aka nits) - you may not be able to find that out though

@nigea99 @ I have a v1 2tb. I am more concerned about the image quality when watching normal tv. So just wondering if moving the main box would help.

hi @James158

Theory says yes but how much you notice may be questionable..

As I mention the main noticable difference is HDR

Just out of interest if you have more than one mini have you also tried seeing how the other one looks (an easy test) just in case there is a difference

Just had a thought

Download something in UHD on the main box & then power down & carefully unplug

Take to your 65" TV & connect the HDMI & play back the recording and also any HD recordings (&maybe any SD) you have

Then power down & reconnect back to the Sat Cables etc after the test
