You cannot series link individual elements like race only.

when you press the record button twice it removes the green up and down arrows which indicate series recording

I'm sure a lot of people want to do the same, just record the qualifying and race. I have this annoying problem too where it records everything under the sun using up valuable storage space.

Unfortunately saying, 'The series link will record everything to do with the race weekend' doesn't cut it. Why does it record everything 'related'? If I series link a tv series, do I also get interviews, backstage footage, director insights, all reviews of the series by other shows etc.? No, I just get the series I've recorded. If I series record a football match, do I get all the other 'related' shows that talk about the football match? No. I just get the future football matches. So why this happens with F1 doesn't make sense. If this happened with other shows everyone would be complaining constantly.

I feel it's a bit of a cop out just accepting that it happens and 'is what it is' and 'just delete what you don't watch'. What if the thing I wanted to watch couldn't be recorded because my disk was filled by related shows I had no desire to watch in the first place? Again, that system would be hugely flawed, as is the recording system for F1 currently (and seemingly has been 'for years').

@Fil wrote:

It happens because the whole race weekend programmes are deemed to be a series. If you don't want to record everything then just single record the elements you do want rather than series linking them.

Again, the answer is 'just let it record all the things you don't actually watch, then delete them all.' If the series link sees every single related program as the same thing, that is the issue. It needs to be changed so that when it sees the words 'race' or 'qualifying' or 'press conference' etc. in the program title, it links all races, qualifying, press conferences individually. It really shouldn't be hard for Sky to program this.

If the answer is to 'mark in your diary to find each qualifying and race segment for the whole season and 'just' press the record button twice to record that single event.' I would argue this is the exact issue recording things automatically was brought in to fix. If that really is the answer, then it shows quite clearly there's a problem.

I'm not having a go at anyone here, I'm just stating that even AI would spot 'race' and 'qualifying' in the title of the show so it would know what the show includes. Surely it can't be that difficult to patch an update so that the title is now considered when setting up series link? After all, 'Driver Press Conference' is very different to 'Race' and are separate 'shows', but seen as one.

Unfortunately Series link doesn't have the ability to pick & choose.

Different people have different wishes when it comes to F1 - some people want to watch all sessions, whilst some just want Qualifying and Races & I guess some people just the races - that is before you add in Sprint weekends & those weekends with Ted's notebooks

I have often felt that it would be better to have multiple series links for F1 but if this was done then customers would need to choose which ones and likely to get it wrong

The naffest inclusion IMO the inclusion of the highlights afterwards which seems totally pointless for those who will have already recorded the race
