Why do you need an engineer for Sky Q install ? Also I want to keep old sky + boxes in other rooms in house without paying for multiroom. Is this possible ? I understand these boxes will only work for free channels.

You can't have Sky+ and Sky Q so you will have to decide which you want.

The reason you need an engineer visit is that there is part on the dish called the LNB which has to be changed when a Sky Q box is connected to it.

hi @Spire2003

As @caesarome the LNB on the dish is changed to a 'wideband' LNB to work with SKY Q

SKy used to install Hybrid LNBs which also have 'Universal' outputs for use with Freesat and compatible with SKY HD boxes but they will no longer do this.

in theory you could get the LNB changed to a Hybrid LNB by a local installer but there is no guarantee that SKY would connect the SKY Q box to one they have not installed (the official policy is not to do so)

You probably know, bust in case you don't, once your account is switched to SKY Q you cannot make or access recrodings on the old SKY boxes
