topic SKY Q with 4 mini boxes only two will work. Is this correct in Sky Q

SKY tell me that only 2 mini boxes will work even though I have 4 ( proposing to buy that is ).

I will only have 2 programmes at the same time. It is an apartment and i leave 2 or 3 TV's on all the time . I don't want to have to swich the mini boxes off and on each time i move from one room to another. This sounds a nonsense as I won't have 4 or 5 TV's on different channels. SKY also say that I cannot watch anything, on 2 of my 5 TV's, not even free to view even though there is a co-ax connection.

Help please?

Hi @Stanley+Annison

You can have up to four minis installed on loan each subject to a one off upfront charge and all under by one single Q monthly Multiscreen subscription
However only two minis can be used simultaneously on all 2 TB boxes and the 1 TB UHD Main boxes to watch Sky Q content.
The original 1 TB non UHD box (32Cxxx) only permits the use of one mini at a time.
If Sky Apps are already being used on some of the minis these will not normally be counted as in Q use and therefore can be used in addition to the above limits.
See the following link for the Versions of main Q box referred to above.
https://www.sky.com/help/articles/sky-software-updates.
Subject to the above limits Sky Q minis can be used completely independently of the main Q box and the same or different program or recording can be viewed on each Q box. Even if viewing the same content it is completely independent and can be viewed at the same or different point.
Minis can do all the features same as the main Q box and can set or delete recordings on the main Q box hard drive. There is one single storage area on the main Q box with no profiles and no indication of which Q box has set a recording. (Unlike Sky+HD Multiroom which has independent storage and planners).
It should also be remembered that minis cannot view UHD recordings or content.

Thanks for your reply..

SKY say that I have to switch off two of my 4 mini boxes to enable the other two to work in addition the main TV. They say that the screen will be black and even connected also via a co-ax that i cannot view free to air channels or I player or ITV app?

Any two Mini boxes must be in Standby mode so that the other two are viewable.

It's not possible to have Sky+ HD on subscription at an address with Sky Q.

Of course you can have Freeview going through an aerial and television set tuner while a Mini is in Standby, or use apps on the television sets: those are entirely separate services.

For more than three television sets in use for Sky content (main Q box plus any two Minis) you'd need to look at Sky Stream rather than Sky Q, if there's enough internet bandwidth at the address.
