Magic eye fir Sky Q mini box

Hello. What is available on the UK market that will allow me to use my sky remote to access my sky Q mini box. The box is on the other side of a wall to the tv i am watching. The old fashioned magic eye doesnt have the correct connections for the mini box. Thanks in advance.

Hi @mattbhoy The voice control remote should work. Mine works three rooms away.

Thanks I was hoping for some type of IR link so I have full functionality if the remote and didn't have to navigate sky trying to decipher my accent 🙂

If you don't have a Bluetooth controller then it would probably be cheaper (and easier) to buy one rather than mess around with IR senders.

hi @mattbhoy

As @MightyQuinn says any Voice Remote which uses bluetooth, once properly paired works by bluetooth which have a very good range - you do not need any old outdated Infrared repeaters etc

As a test I used my bluetooth remote from my back garden when my box is in alcove in my front room so through 2 rooms and 2 walls

If your remote for your mini is one of the very first issued with minis and does not have voice button then you can buy a new voice control one from many sources.

If, as I suspect you have, do already have a bluetooth/voice remote then just make sure it is paired :

May I suggest you try a reset of your remote:

First reset it :
Press & Hold the 7 & 9 until the remote's light (red LED above the SKY logo button) flashes 4 times

Then press 1 & 3 together to go through to re-pair with the box and your TV - at this point you must make sure it has line of sight of the box as until it is paired it uses Infrared - this may be the tricky bit if currently out of sight but once done won;t be a problem

Hi @mattbhoy The voice remote uses Bluetooth giving you full functionality, you don't have to use voice commands! Note when you first pair it, you must be in direct sight because it uses IR until it is paired.

Thanks both. I think the issue may be that my main remote is voice activated but the other one isn't so possible need an upgrade to my remote control on the mini box. Appreciate the replies. Thanks

Is it a very old remote - AFAIK they stopped shipping the IR only remotes with minis & changed over to voice remotes even for minis several years ago

Some older remotes have a (small) voice button on the right hand side at the top - as I mention if you do have a voice remote worth trying a reset & pairing

Yes I have one of those for my main box but it's the mini box I need the BT solution for and that doesn't have that functionality. I got my sky q in year one of launching.

Ah yes unfortunately in those days the minis did only get an IR only remote.

It is a shame you didn't get one of the free remotes that SKY offered VIP customers a few years ago

You could try asking them to send you one - you might get lucky
