Screen goes black momentarily then comes back on after a serving of two

We will be watching Sky Q and the TV screen goes completely black for a second or two then comes back on. This also happens on recordings. I assume it loses signal, then regains it. If we are watching in 4k, when the picture comes back on we get the 'UHD+HDR' Logo in the top right corner which also indicates the signal has disappeared and come back again. It does not happen when using any other input, only with Sky Q.

I'm getting really browned off with Sky Q. I've had it since its launch and had constant issues since. I never had any issues with Sky HD! I'm close to cancelling and I've been a loyal customer for 23 years..

@HeoffH

If you log this as a fault with Sky, they'll probably swap out the main Q box.

If it happens with the new box then suspicion shifts to cabling or TV.

Hi,

Yes, I solved it myself. I suspected a faulty HDMI lead(original Sky one) and so replaced it with one from my own stock. This worked and the problem has never recurred. I hope this helps.

I have switched from 10bit colour to 8bit colour and the black screen has stopped, well so far so good. However it nows that the likes of Disney, Netflix and Prime apps are only showing as HD and not 4K on the programs/films.

I also get the bottom of the screen going out of sync, so it looks like a band that is delayed. When this happens I get them to change the box out and everything works again for a while until needing to change it again. All this is very frustrating as you lose all your recordings.

If anyone gets a proper solution please let me know.

My Q box was updated yesterday and today I am getting a similar 1 second blank screen with no sound, but only on a few channels, including UK Gold, Drama, Alibi so far, but not at all on any BBC, ITV, Ch4 or 5 , or Sky, Legend ?

Also occationally I see what looks like a different chanel breaking through, or when watching a corrupted MP4 file.

Signal Strength = 70, Quality = 90 while watching Drama, also occurs during adverts.

I haven't moved or changed anything

Any suggestions please

This drop out had cured itself by the next day and actually occured on the same day as the global Crowdstrike AV issue, so may well have been due to that.

I've had new hdmi leads new q box new router and still it happens but on all other tvs it's fine, so I swapped the TV and still it does it I'm tempted to move the q box main to another tv and put a slave q in the main sitting room. Anyone else at the end of their tether with sky

I had the same issue, but the black screen was also on the recordings, eg rewind and the black screen was at the same point. Hence, hdmi can't fail exactly at the same point every time and it can't be the tv either, so i focused on the Sky box, I removed and cleaned the viewing card, and also reset the sky q box. No further issues.

I'm having these issues also

have checked and swapped HDMI's, tried different inputs on tv also which work with alternatives

ULTRA HD seems to have the most issues

I have moments of black screen and sound can also dip at times

I've also been with sky a number of years but this is ruining viewing for me

Same issue with intermittent blank screen.

The first easy option for me was removing and wiping the viewing card.

Happening to me too on my dads Q box. Tried new hdmi lead, different ports, wiped the card and when I put it back it got worse. I've just tried to see if I needed an update and there was one so I'm letting it do it's thing now and watching feeeview until it's done it's finished. I guess the next thing would be cleaning the box itself to see if that helps if the update doesn't. Otherwise I'll have to ring sky. Doesn't happen on any other device or uhd content. As soon as I turn on 10 bit 2160p it starts and stays even when I turn it back to 1080p. I got some respite after unplugging it for a minute and restarting it yesterday and it was fine until I tried the amazon prime app. It also seems to happen late at night a lot too, could it have something to do with overheating? I have 10cm gap around each side, it's becoming unbearable now.

They did come and give me a new box and improve signal strength for me though so always worth getting an engineer out

Problem has returned since then, engineer wanted me to run the system on 8 bit though

10bit engages HDR though which is a much nice picture in my opinion

Thanks that's reassuring in a way. Let's hope they do something. It seems to stop if I restart the box and set it back to 1080p but then that completely defeats the object of having a uhd 4k oled tv capable of 8, 10 and 12 bits so the fact I can't use it even on 8 bits is very annoying.

Unless the box is faulty, which is possible, this sounds far more likely to be a cable/connection issue. Or possibly also a faulty TV losing sync. Which hdmi cables did you try and how are they connected? Anything in between?

I have never had these problems at 2160/10

I've tried the sky cable that came with it and a 2.1 hdmi with 48ghz speed brand new i also have the same one connected to my 4K blu ray player and I get 12 bit connection 60 hz refresh rate with no issues with resolution, hdr or any type of drop out audio or picture. It could well be faulty equipment or wear and tear after 8 years of use I guess. This is first time we've had a 4k tv though. Panasonic oled. Nothing in between sky q box and tv. Maybe it just needs a good old fashioned cleaning/airing out. I may give sky a ring tomorrow and see what they suggest.

Thanks for letting us know, I've got top notch hdmi cables and new box after engineer came out and still have issues. It is a problem with Sky itself, I won't be told otherwise at this stage as gone through everything asked multiple times and that includes with a sky engineer stood beside me

I don't have any of these issues with other inputs on my tv
