Connecting a mini box via Ethernet

I'm wanting to put a sky mini box in the summer house which is some 40 metered away from the main box and the router what's the best way to do this I have a cat 6 cable in and ready to go so I just connect mini box to the main box via this cable or does the router need to be involved

if it's juts cable out the main box into the mini one then that's great juts need some advice on how to set up down there as it's out of wireless range

Hi @Rosebudxx1987

if you are on Sky Broadband you can connect the mini to either the Sky router or the main Q box by Ethernet. If on 3rd party broadband then it needs to connect to the main Q box,

First with the Ethernet connected carry out a Network reset on the mini.
Network reset found in Home - Settings - Setup - Network. Highlight Status and then select Reset on the right. Do not do any WPS and just wait for it to connect.
If it doesn't connect there is an issue with the Ethernet.

If on 3rd party broadband, once it connects go immediately into the mini hidden menu and turn off both bands of WiFi.

To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Go to Network to turn off both bands of WiFi. Confirm before exit.

If on Sky you can leave the WiFi on so you get a WiFi hotspot from the mini

Hi did you manage to get this to work for you? We have a mini box in the summerhouse and it was working fine but we have had to get a new sky router and now it will connect to the internet but will not connect to sky q?

I have sky q and a mini box.
my internet provider is virgin

pleas explain where the Ethernet cable goes

is it out the sky q box into the virgin router and the same thing with the mini box ( out the mini box into the router) ????

That's correct, yes, or both connected to an ethernet switch which itself has a connection to the Virgin Hub.

Ok here goes

connected the sky q box to my virgin router

turned off WiFi (001)

went to mini box and connected to router (long Ethernet cable)

cannot connect?
I wanted both q box and mini on Ethernet cable.

all I seem to be able to do is connect q box to mini box and turn off WiFi on mini. So w box is WiFi connected and mini is Ethernet cable.

not sure what to do now as I wanted both on Ethernet cable.

Hi, I've just switched both my Sky Q box and the mini box from WiFi to Ethernet and they are both showing as connected to Ethernet when I check my router, but I'm still getting disconnects on the mini box as I was getting on WiFi. Anyone have any ideas?

I have an engineer visit booked and I'm thinking it's a possible fault with one of the boxes dropping the connection. I have tested both Ethernet cables and they are fine.
