@Chodley

If a soundbar has HDMI, volume control is possible by the TV and so with the Sky remote control if the TV is in the "Sky list", but the Bowfell is good, small and cheap so you have to use the optical cable because it lacks HDMI.

Bowfell soundbar has its own remote control to turn it on and adjust the volume, but I think having the Sky remote control, the one for the smart TV and the one for the soundbar is a bit too much, considering that with the old (not smart) television I only had 1 (the one from Sky)...

In any case I was advised to solve the problem by purchasing a Sky remote control which is capable of cloning the IR signal of other remote controls (URC1635 Sky Q)

I ordered it and it arrives next week. Finger crossed.

I have been controlling my Majority soundbar's volume with my Sky Q remote for the past 1 1/2 years quite successfully.Up until 2 days ago when I changed TVs.The s/bar is connected via Toslink (fibre optic) cable.So it IS possible to connect without using HDMI.I just dont know what code I used to do it back then.

Just for the record,after a bit of perseverance I now can control my Majority K2 soundbar volume using my Sky Q remote via Toslink. Using one of the Magnavox settings on the menu,I'm not sure which,all is well.So,all the experts who say it is not possible are wrong.WRONG.It is possible.Just a bit of patience is all thats needed.

HDMI can handle higher fidelity audio than optical (not from a Sky box though as it doesn't generate that) and it can send commands between devices but if you've got IR working, that isn't much of a distinction (though you probably can't turn it on and off via IR). It also means one less cable usually.

Probably not - IF;

1. You use streaming apps a lot (with Dolby Atmos support)

2. It's an eARC port

3. The soundbar supports high fidelity audio

4. The soundbar does a really good job (they clearly can't do what full multi-channel speaker systems do)

then maybe there could be a small improvement but honestly I'd be surprised if you'd notice.
