Sorry @Anonymous there is no way to use SKY Q with transponders from the Atra 1 series of Satellites at 19E

Even if you were to change the dish to your own motorised one, , the SKY Q box has no facility for sending signals to change dish position & it can't accept additional feeds from a separate dish & LNB - at its best SKY Q is extremely clunky for any manually tuned stations anyway

Thanks for the reply but misunderstanding I want to use astra 1kr with my maxview mobile precision dish It seems that 1kr is the only saterlite I can pick up on my sky q system

Astra 1KR doesn't broadcast any Sky UK/Ireland channels, you can't use it to receive the Sky service, if that's what you're asking.

Is the LNB on your dish a 'Wideband' LNB - my guess it is a universal LNB

SKY Q only works with wideband LNBs (requiring 2 feeds 1 for each polorisation) or a dSCR LNB that accepts the digital commands for use wit a Single cable & doesn't work with 'Universal' LNBs

As I tried to indicate with my earlier post SKY Q can't use 2 sets of cables so you would need to manually switch cables over when wanting to watch from Astra 1 rather than channels from 28.2

Hi I've just had skyq installed at home but my maxview precision id mobile dish wouldn't pick it up so I have bought a new lnb for it but new lnb doesn't work the id light on the dish which let's you no your on the correct saterlite. I have a horizon saterlite finder but it doesn't have astra2 28E but does have 1kr which I can tune to and receive all channels just wanted to no if this will work throughout the uk

If SKY installed SKY Q then they would have also installed a dish pointing correctly at 28.2

If you are trying to use your box with a dish on a mobile home then we need to point to the T&Cs which only allow use at your home.

That said cheap Satfinders are based on Universal LNBs and not suitable for Wideband LNBS - other than trial & error you would need a fairly high end Satellite Signal meter to work with Wideband LNBs needed for SKY Q.

I believe my mid range Meter would need some careful input tweakes to work to find only a limited set of frequenceis using a wideband LNB that uses a different oscillator frequency

Yes mobile dish and my saterlite finder I've had many years and had no problems with but it doesn't have astra 28E installed but does have astra 1kr 19.2 which works fine with all channels available I just wanted to no if 1kr would be ok to use throughout the UK

I am not fully sure I understand but I think it may be a case of terminology & what I am guessing is your slightly limited knowledge of the Satellites & Tech.

I suspect your Satfinder is set to a set of frequencies for different Satellites (like my Satellite meter has) but these are just pre-programmed lists - if you can't enter frequencies & other parameters manually you may be able able to use it if you can find a suitable frequency that is also used on Astra 2 (but see below re wideband LNB )

As @xenon81 points out Astra 1KR at 19E itself does not carry any UK SKY channels

You mention a new LNB but haven't confirmed it is a Wideband LNB - as I explained this is needed for SKY Q & as I mentioned I would be very surprised if your Sat finder works ok with a wideband LNB

Yes the new lnb is wideband and not hybrid and my horizon sat finder tunes to astra 1kr no issues but my sat finder doesn't have astra28e installed but does have many other astra channels installed its a horizon make but I can't upgrade it as they don't seem to be trading now

@Anonymous Unfortunately if the the Astra 2 at 28E orbital slot isn't programmed into the positioner there isn't much you can do other than search forums elsewhere who may have experience of motorised systems.

Astra 1 mainly carries German, Dutch, Italian & French programms/services, there are very few English channels at that orbital position and using a Sky Q box isn't going to get you any good results either.

Without the positioner being reprogrammed/updated you just won't be able to use it for Astra 2 at 28E.

Why not just simply use the mini dish installed at your home for Sky Q? As advised eleswhere taking the Sky box away from the home is againts Sky's T & C's so you shouldn't be doing that.

I have to reiterate that Wideband LNBs work different to Universal LNBs

Wideband LNBs use a different Oscillator frequency and uses a single full 'wideband' frequency range, each cable carries different Polarities

Univeral LNBs use 2 different 'bands' switched by a 22KHz tone & the polarities are switched by the LNB voltage

Thus your Satellite finder is unlikely to find any channels without modification - irrespective of any pre-loaded settings

I have just checked the Satellite frequency lists I use & I see that at least one transponder used on Astra 1KR shares the same settings for some channels as Astra 2 namely 10773 Horizontal which is why you have been able to use that in the past

As per my last note the Wideband LNBs work differently so your Satfinder is unlikely to work with the new LNB (although it could using legacy outputs of a Hybrid LNB)

If your Sky Q system is working and you're getting UK channels like BBC, ITV and the Sky UK channels then the dish is not pointing at Astra 1KR, no matter what your sat finder says. There are no UK channels on that satellite.

Well maybe 3 or 4 but only News Channels.
