When do you need to enter the PIN

This is not the usual PIN moan, I just wonder if somebody can explain this to me.

So we have all PIN stuff turned off (no kids etc.), so we do now and again still get asked for the PIN, annoying, but accepted.

However it seems so inconsistent...

Take last weeks SWAT. Recorded off Sky Max on Sunday @9pm (not the 2am showing).

Woke up early on Monday. Started watching it at approx. 5am and I needed to enter the PIN. OK it's a 9pm show seems to make sense.

I didn't watch it all though and came back to watch the rest at approx. 10am and wasn't asked for the PIN.

Does it only ask for the PIN at the start of the show? Why does it need the PIN at 5am, but not 10am?

Just interested to know, not a moan.
