Sky Q Questions

Hello everyone - my first post. Could someone please read through this and if possible answer some of the questions I've raised?

I think my Sky+HD box is failing (I'll be asking questions on another discussion). Sky offered to give me a Sky Q box before my troubles with the HD+ box. I phoned them to ask which size box they were offering there answer was 1 TB. When I asked if I could have a 2 TB box they said that would cost £100.oo.

I usually have my HD box about 80% full mainly SD documentaries from PBS America.

My concern is, if I'm correct, the supplied Apps on the Q box take up space. Just how much relative to the 1TB HD+ box?

If I have to pay for the box would it belong to me if I cancelled my subscription to Sky. I can understand that a giveaway box would have to be returned but my reasoning is that if I'd paid for it I should own it.

I've been really happy my my HD box and would prefer to be able to purchase a new one, I don't believe that is possible, is that so?

Some people are selling "reconditioned" boxes on ebay. I can only imagine that reconditioning is a wipe over with a wet-wipe, I can't imagine that they will have replaced the HDD, is that the case?

A friend of mine, who lives a long way away, said that Sky had given him a 2 TB box, I think this was some time ago and maybe Sky are now only sending out 1 TB boxes?

The 1TB has 700GB of user space.

Nope: you'd be paying a fee to facilitate the loan of non-standard hardware.

HD boxes haven't been manufactured since 2015, so there are no 'new' ones. Second hand units are about £30 on eBay.

Very unlikely, but such hardware is now essentially disposable anyway (although Recordings disappear with it)

2TB was a standard (although more expensive) option between early 2016 and late 2019 when the 1TB UHD/HDR model was released to become the default hardware.

If: The 1TB has 700GB of user space.

Am I correct in thinking that my 1TB Sky HD+ = 100GB, or is part of that used up by the operating system?

If NOT then the Q Box would hold 70% relative to the HD Box?

Hi @Archie7249 All PVR boxes (including the SkyHD+ box) show the storage size (HDD) as total with operating system etc. making up the total size. I wouldn't be surprised that the 1TB box has the same user space as Sky Q.

Operating system and apps are relatively small (a handful of gigabytes) : the rest of the 'reserved' portion is used by Sky for pushed content storage.

Unfortunately this doesn't become user accessible space even if the push option is switched off.
