Copy from Sky Q box to Panasonic DVD recorder

My apologies if this has been asked and answered before. I currently have a Sky+ HD box and it is linked to my Panasonic DVD recorder but I have just been notified that Sky+ will no longer be supported.

Can Sky Q be linked in the same or similar way, if so how can this be done? Also, if I do not upgrade to Sky Q will my current box continue to work or will it just stop working at some future date?

SKYQ is not designed to have an external recorder attached to it, the only output being a HDMI connection to a TV.

SKYQ boxes can record up to six channels at the same time.

A Sky+ HD box is likely to continue to function for live viewing, recording/playback and on-demand: some interactive functions may cease.

Sky Q has no SCART output, only HDMI, so if you are currently connecting your +HD box to your Panasonic recorder in this way then you won't be able to do the same with a Q box,

It is possible to download to a DVD recorder from SkyQ.

However you need a HDMI to SCART converter. You will lose quality but you are able to do it.

I too have a panasonic recorder DVD Player that also edits, I also used to copy from sky to this box then edit, IE cut out adverts etc then record that program onto a disc, but by what Ive read above with sky Q it seems I am no longer able to do that ? Is that correct.

Generally, yes. Only HDMI output with HDCP.

Presumably you are using SCART output to do so: that's an interface nearly half a century old, and was never going to be specified on Sky Q. RCA plug (for analogue component video and stereo audio) is even older.

You can output analog composite video from a mini

the results are poor. But then so are DVDs.

But even then the video can be subject to Macrovision copy protection

You would have thought that the composite AV output on Sky Q mini box wouldn't have copy protection on it these days. Nobody is going to copy stuff this way to sell it. Most of us would just like a way to copy something for our own personal use to be able to watch, even in SD when it's inevitably removed from Sky Channels.

I agree although they absolutely do not want you copying things for your own personal use, neither do we have any right to do so even though VHS gave us the impression it was allowed. They want you to need to pay for it again (or sit through ads) and as the content rights owners, that is a legitimate legal and commmercial attitude to adopt, even though it seems properly humbug. Especially if it's something that is unlikely to ever be re-broadcast such as a family member on the news or something. A smartphone on a tripod is probably better than composite at that point though 😆

The only exception to this is if you buy a permanent right to a copy of the media like a bluray and how many of us do that these days? (confession: I love a decent 4K bluray)

I have used the system to record a couple of things and the quality is slightly better than Sky+HD but now a couple of chanels used to record from have gone from Sky so looking at setting my DVD Recorder to receive Freeview which have never done so can then use that to record to DVD Recorder, I record Beatles things which have done since 1987

I understand copyright protection etc but there are things on my SkyQ box that I want to keep forever such as The Masters in Augusta the year I attended. The moment I cease to have SkyQ I will lose a precious memory. Isn't that an infringement of my human rights? I now feel I have to stay with SkyQ forever because of their restrictive practice.
