Hi.

I've 2 old sky cables with standard dish connectors running to a room in my house. I want to move the sky q box I to that room. I've been told that sky q cables need a specific connector onto the dish to boost the signal. Does anyone have details of the types of connector I need ?

Thanks

You need a Sky Q or Sky 'hybrid' LNB. If you are currently using Q then by definition you've already got one of these on the dish, but if it's the default hardware then only the cable to the room where the main Q box is now located is attached.

@Liam80 Sky Q needsa wideband LNB so if you have Sky Q then you will have this the standard wideband LNB only has 2 outputs so these will be the cables to where your Q box is currently.

The 2 cables in the other room won't be connected but if you are confident and can get to the cable you may be able to disconnect the 2 cables to your LNB on the dish and reconnect the 2 that are not connected allowing you to watch in the room you want to move the Q box to.

If you don't feel confident you can contact Sky who may charge £65 to move the Q box and test the cables or you could get a quote from and independant installer

The sky q box has the proper dish connectors. The other room only has the standard dish connectors.

I now want to move the sky q box into the other room.

Instead of re-running cable I want to put the proper sky q dish connectors on all the cables.

I'm looking for details of the dish connectors I need?

Thanks

I'm looking for details of the dish connectors I need?

Thanks

@Liam80 the connectors on the end of the cable are exactly the same for Sky Q as they were for the older system the only difference on the dish is the LNB as I stated

are you sure all 4 cables are connected ? as when my Sky Q was installed they installed the standard wideband LNB and connected the cables to that but the cables running to other rooms were left but tied up to the dish so look like they are still connected

When Sky set up your Q box they may have changed the connectors at the end of the cable going in to your Q box to ones that are crimped on but they are still the same as the ones on the end of the cable in the other room as Sky have not changed the type of connections they use so they should still work

As @Laing1 says the physical connectors are the same.

To use SKY Q in the other room the connectors on the dish end cable that runs to it will need to be switched over to the ones being used by SKY Q in your current room

i.e. If all cables are connected then basically swap the 2 sets over at the dish - if only the current SKY Q cable connectors are connected then you will need to just undo them and connect the connectors from the old cable going to the other room

I think you're confusing how satellite systems work.

All satellite receivers be it Generic FTA, Freesat, Sky+/Sky+HD or SkyQ all use the industry standard terminals which require F-Type connectors, these tend to be screw on or crimped.

As advised by other the LNB will be different for Sky Q, these tend to be wideband with 2 outputs, there are other types available. You may have had a Universal LNB for Sky+/Sky+HD.
