I have read several similar articles on here but as yet have not found a solution to my issue so hoping someone can help.

I have Sky Broadband of course, a Sky Q box and 1 mini. I also have a DECO mesh (E4R) and our house wifi runs off the DECO network access points.

The Q boxes had been connected wirelessly to the DECO network too but I found that the connection was inconsistent and unreliable so switched so that they connected to the Sky router wirelessly instead. This now results in drop outs betweem the Q main and mini..every day so that we have to reset the network connection. Our Smart TVs have good connection to the wireless DECO network so had two questions.

1) How could we improve the connectivity to thewirless DECO network for the MINI?

2) Could I connect an ethernet cable from the Q main and Mini to the relevant smart tvs to act as a bridge?

Grateful for any advice please.

Thanks

Normally the best option with a 3rd party mesh is to connect all the Q boxes to the mesh nodes and then switch off all Q box WiFi.

My experience with deco and sky was mixed. As mentioned by @oldfella the best/recommended way is to wire each sky box to a deco node. However, I had mixed results. There's a document on tp link's site (which I don't think I can link to) but it suggests the recommended way is as above but also with your main deco set in AP mode.

Now I did it this way and my sky stuff worked well but my general WiFi and speed dropped off seriously.

I have reverted to using deco in router mode. The sky box and minis are connecting to the sky router wirelessly and now using powerline plug pair to connect a difficult outlying mini.

We hard wired Main Q box and 2 minis back to a switch that is connected to the main Deco Mesh P9 uniyt this resolved most of the problems. However I have now discovered that the wifi signal generated by the Q box is interfering with the Deco mesh signal and needs to be switched off. This is cauasing the Deco unit to disconndect from the internet.

@sheppardspie

The problem is that the mini will not connect reliably to a 3rd party WiFi and is only looking for the Q box WiFi.

When running a 3rd party mesh Network alongside the Sky Q mesh there is likely going to be interference between the Networks and possible instability in the connection.

I'm not aware of any smart television which can act as a wireless-to-wired network bridge. Q television boxes can do this (so a Q box on WiFi can potentially supply a television or other device with an ethernet connection) because Q hardware was specifically designed for that very specialist task as part of its wider mesh node functionality.

Latest now is that I am unable to connect to the Sky router at all now. Turned off the DECO mesh completey so the only wifi network is from the Sky router. Turned off the Q main and mini > rebooted both > rebooted router and nothing. Why do I bother with Sky after all these years? Every other device works find in the house using the mesh but not the Sky boxes. Next step will be the laborious task of calling Sky CS I guess. Thanks for your advice.

Hello,

I have had the same issue for months now and it's very frustrating. What I have done is hardwired the Skyq box to my deco P9. turned off 2.4ghz on sky q mini boxes. I also have a Sky booster for the Sky q signal only as I live in a 3 storey house and one of the mini boxes is located on the 3rd floor. My broadband is with Virgin (much better speed) This has solved my issue. With multiple mesh systems they can interfere. Sky Q builds it's own mesh.

Hi I own a set of 3 Deco E4 units. My issue is that I need the Deco mesh system as I have an annexe in the garden, and I use it to get wifi to the smart tv, phones, and latop down there. The router is in the front of the house, the Glass tv in the back of the house, and the garden annexe about 50 efeet away. When I had the Sky Q box, I had the main deco pod by the router at the front of the house, the 2nd Deco pod by the Sky Q box, and the 3rd Deco in the garden annexe.which used to work great with the Sky Q box, and the Sky router. The signal was strong enough to reach down the garden and get a wifi signal to the smart TV and my mobile phone and laptop etc. It was not hard wired in, just doing what deco does! However now I no longer have a Sky Q box but now have a Sky Glass TV. and I have no idea how to configure it so that I can get a wifi signal to the annexe ... I have a lodger moving into the annexe on Monday and I promised her wifi! - help!! please!! thank you

Had this issue when I got my new, local-fibre connection, early 2024. Invested right away in 4x X60's...

In short, Deco Mesh doesn't like Sky Q kit being connected - my solution was to cat5 my primary Sky Q box and let my 2x Mini Boxes connect to the Sky Q 'mesh' network through the primary Q box. Been rock solid ever since 😉

Good luck!
