My new box is due in an hour or so but the message I received today says "Remember to have the other item ready for a speedy exchange with your driver." Do they just take the old Q box as is as I don't have any packaging for it? I thought they need the remote, cable and power supply as well?

hi @Anonymous

Yes you need to have the box ready as they take your old one in the same packaging the new comes with.

Make sure you check the power supply cable - if 2TB some have & need a separate power supply (small multi pin on back of Q)

In theory need to swap remote & HDMI cable but you could just end the new ones back

Don't forget to take out your Viewing card before giving your old box over

Yes but you will need to call as online options have not been restored

I am not too sure of the current charge

The standard 'engineer' upgrade was £100 (or maybe £99) for probably as long as I can remember

This charge is/was the same for a 1TB HDR box or a 2TB HDR box when an engineer switches

However, there should be a self install option which was £25 for 1TB HDR & £50 for 2TB although I think these may possibly have increased a bit but I am not sure.

One thing that did crop for at least one customer a long time ago was that the adviser could not select 'self install' on their system until the UHD add on upgrade had been applied so this may be the reason - it might be worth calling again and try to get them to see if thay can apply the UHD add on before checking to see if a Self install is an option

I've just called to change from my old 1TB non UHD/HDR box to one that does support this as we have just changed out HD TV for a new 4K Samsung S95C TV (and possibly for the UHD upgrade). I found it staggering that he was insistent that I pay Sky £99 for a rental box (with over 16 years continuing membership), no doubt he'd have tried for an admin fee as well (which I feel is price gouging at best) but I'm afraid I'd had enough of his nonsense by then, especially as he decided to tell me my price is going up in July by around 11% on my current subscriptions alone. Apparently it's so Sky can improve my service although he was at a loss for words when I asked him to quantify how my subscription would be so much better.

I'll write to Livingston as the emails seem to be dead now as far as I can tell, but if that's how Comcast have directed them then come November I will finally be an ex customer.

If your box is "broken" you can sometimes end up with a newer model as a replacement. I certainly did when I was a Q customer and didn't have to pay anything.

Good to know.

My box is making odd noises and is getting very slow despite the HD being tidied up. Given the website seems to be broken (why have a complaints form that doesn't work?) what's the best way to request a replacement?

Hi @Anonymous You will need to call SKY and talk to an advisor if you require a replacement SKYQ box.

I guess you never bothered to read the previous posts?

I've heard these stories about non HDR boxes being replaced with HDR versions by making fake claims their own box had a irrecoverable fault before but Sky sussed that little bypass out a while ago once everyone started sharing this information up on the internet, and the worst place anyone could use to share this nibblet of information was actually in their own support forum 😂

My new box is due in an hour or so but the message I received today says "Remember to have the other item ready for a speedy exchange with your driver." Do they just take the old Q box as is as I don't have any packaging for it? I thought they need the remote, cable and power supply as well?

Yes you need to have the box ready as they take your old one in the same packaging the new comes with.

Make sure you check the power supply cable - if 2TB some have & need a separate power supply (small multi pin on back of Q)

In theory need to swap remote & HDMI cable but you could just end the new ones back

Don't forget to take out your Viewing card before giving your old box over

Cheers, I'm going to do a factory reset now so it's all ready. It's an old 1TB box I've got so definitely going to need a new power supply I'd have thought.

only one type of 2TB box has the separate power supply - all the rest just use the same standard figure of 8 cable (which the separate power supply also uses as input)

As I say, if expecting a 2TB box just check the back of the new Q box - if a figure of 8 you are OK - if a multipin connector then make sure there is a separete power supply in with it
