Slow sky Q download

Tell me sky aren't slowing your Q boxes down when you don't use there internet!

went with Lila connect as they are the only gigabit provider in my area and were also cheaper since have 500mbps internet with another provider my sky box has gone from downloading a 4K HDR show in a few minutes to taking well over an hour. My older internet (sky) was 58mbps None of the help guides have sorted this issue either telly me why with 10X quicker internet my box is downloading 100X slower!

How is your router connected to the Q box?

With non-Sky ISP you can only use 2.4GHz if connecting wirelessly. A Sky router will use 5GHz.

No through wifi as it's always been my router outputs both 2.4 and 5ghz so that shouldn't be a problem it should still be picking up a much higher speed signal than before the box is also well ventilated

Your router may have 2.4 and 5GHz enabled but it will only use the former for your new provider.

That may not explain the difference but obviously the throughput will only be as fast as the slowest part of the complete route. Published speeds are peak and won't be achieved from all sources.

Just ran a speed test using Netflix (not sure how reliable it is) but apparently it's getting 13.3 out of a portable 517 rest of the house all devices regardless off 2.4 or 5GHz connectivity are all reviving between 400-517 unsure why sky boxes are so different, totally unusable at the moment may have to hard wire it and pray the mrs doesn't see all the cables! Absolutely shocking bit of kit though if that all it's picking up total toss!

Hi @spov

Try a Reset Settings in the Q box hidden menu.
To enter hidden menu press Home and navigate down to Settings but do not select Settings.
With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.
Only Carry out the first Reset (Reset Settings) as the other two will wipe all recordings.
After the Reset you will have to re pair your Bluetooth remote If you use one.
If you cannot switch the Q box on with the remote after the Reset press the Standby button (Amber led) on the front of the box.
To re pair the remote press 1 & 3 together on the remote and follow onscreen instructions to re pair.

Make sure that you are pointing the remote at the Q box when you press 1 & 3 together.

Resetting the settings will also reset:

Audio visual settings, such as picture resolution and HDMI control
Settings changed within the hidden engineer menu, include LNB type. If on a communal dish you need to reset the LNB to SCR in the hidden menu. After changing the LNB type you need to reboot the Q box.

Something doesn't add up here. An average 15Gb download is going to take over half an hour at that bandwidth.

Remember you can play them before they finish downloading fully.

Try Ethernet as you note but remember it's 2016 equipment so was designed well before today's home bandwidth was even dreamt about.

Managed to get it up to 25mbps wit doing this, crudely wired it and got 350 so going have to get a super long Ethernet cable wait for the mrs to go to work

If you don't have Sky as your broadband provider it's alway best to use an ethernet connection because the 2.4GHz band can be quite congested depending where you live.

So what we are saying is Sky deliberately puts you on a slower bandwidth if you don't have Sky broadband. I thought this type of thing is anti consumer and illegal???

This is a Sky problem and they will not fix it as they report it's a you problem

I my sky q box speed test on Netflix shows 3.98 Mbps when my smart tvs netflix is showing 66.35Mbps from the same connection now I know it's not a bandwidth issue as all other devices work fine and I have a gig connection

this seems to be worse now they are pushing there internet stream system via sky glass

Whereas my Q says 93Mb and my TV right next to it reports about 3. Wifi is never as simple as it should be. I do use ethernet out of the Q into a wifi mesh node which sorted out a lot of my Q issues.

Like you say WiFi is never straight forward I have even tried turning all external connections off and only having the sky q and tv connected

to WiFi and the same issue remains I never had this issue in the past as I was able to download a uhd movie in less than ten minutes now a standard HD movie won't play until I have 25% down and that can take over an hour so even if I wait to start at 25% the film will catch up on itself before the end and I will be left waiting an age to get the rest of it

It is that bad that I now just use streaming services via tv to watch movies and I am thinking of dropping the entire service from sky
