Skyq 1080p always recommended by sky installers

Always wondered about best picture setting for skyq... 1080p or 1080i.

1080p gives more detail and is sharper for football IMHO.

Everytime I have sky stuff fitted by sky they always install at 1080p

Cant understand why the default setting is 1080i.

Your thoughts guys

It's not that simple and YMMV.

The native source material (UHD aside) is 1080i.

Most TV's are now 4k so which is best?

1) Sky 1080i > TV > upscale 4k

2) Sky 1080i > 1080p > TV > upscale 4k

...answer is it depends on your TV (and it's processing settings). Similar situation for HD TV if not 4k.

I've always found 1080p to look better especially for sport and Sky seem to confirm that:

1080i: This is the Full HD resolution. It's got the same pixel resolution as 1080p, but it might appear to flicker or blur during action scenes or live sport.
1080p: This is the mode used for Blu-ray discs and some games consoles. If you've got a large HD TV, this is the best resolution.

That quote from Sky is kind of misleading

1080i has half the pixel resolution of 1080p and the box or TV has to guess the other half. UNLESS it's a 25fps source like a movie where it can reconstitute the full frames.

Anyway the answer is 2160p because obviously it's only worth watching UHD stuff these days 😉

I believe the native resolution of the SKY Q box is actually 1080i

In addition & possibly more importantly I think that 1080i is the setting which allows the box to auto switch to work with TVs that are not capable of 1080 (e.g. HD ready at 720, or even SD 576 )

Don't think it auto-switches and actually don't think there are any. All "HD Ready" TVs had to be able to handle 1080i signals even if they had lower res panels and HDMI wasn't supported by any screens that could only accept SD. I had a plasma that was 1024x768 iirc (non-square pixels) and its optional HDMI input board could take 1080i. I think anything before that was analogue RGBHV at best, more likely s-video or RGBs or, god forbid, composite.
