BBC iPlayer UHD on SkyQ?

Hi, I have a new SkyQ box, but it does not offer UHD on iPlayer. I have accessed iPlayer on my 2018 model Sony TV in another room and it works on that device.

Does anyone know if SkyQ UHD 1Tb is able to play UHD content in iPlayer?

Hi @Lozzer62 BBC Ultra HD content is not available on the BBC iPlayer app on Sky, to view Ultra HD content where available, you'll need to use the BBC iPlayer app on your smart TV.

The BBC iPlayer resource page indicates that Sky Q isn't compatible (yet) with UHD

However, a post on this recent thread:

Implies that some Sky Q boxes are compatible

I guess the real answer is that your box isn't currently on the BBCs approved list but might be in the future..

No, I don't have any add-ons. I only got the Sky Q because it was better value than buying a freesat 4k box, which, incidentally also doesn't support UHD on iPlayer.

Stupidly, I thought that terms UHD and 4k would apply across the board and not just to subscription services.

Yeah, that's a bit of a pain isn't it? However, for a few quid a month, you can get UHD which then overlays all of your packages - so you pay for the UHD addon and it'll apply to any TV/Sports/Movies packages you have.

There are three generations of Sky Q boxes, the newest (third) generation support UHD on the iPlayer app, the older ones don't.

Is that for both the 1TB & 2TB v3 boxes?

I just replaced my v1 2TB box with a V3 1 TB box, 32B206 and i don't see the UHD icons on the relevant iPlayer programs, although the quality looks like UHD

I believe the v3 UHD Boxes should have a version of the BBC iPlayer that plays UHD - although I think the discussions we have had have tended to discuss the 2TB version but AFAIK the 1TB & 2TB are the same bar the HDD size

We do know the v1 & V2 2TB boxes do not have a UHD capable version of iplayer

I'd be interested to hear from anyone with a 2TB v3 box hardware version 32B2** to know it they see UHD icons on on relevant programs on iPlayer or not.

Hi @Dave-1234567890 You don't mention that you have the UHD subscription add-on. The BBC iPlayer on my 2TB 32B2 box shows UHD The Responder on the home page.

I'd imagine it's quite possible that box has been sitting in a warehouse since 2019 and doesn't currently have the most recent version of the iPlayer app installed.

I'd suggest running the Q update process

Go to Settings, then System Info and highlight Software version.
Choose Setup and then select Software download.
Your box will start to download the latest software. This can take up to 10 minutes.
To check the status of the software download, go to Settings, then System info and highlight Software version.
When it says "Software update successful" press the Standby button on your remote.
When your box restarts, follow the on screen messages. You'll then be on the latest software version.

and then the app refresh process

Home

Settings (but do not select Settings)

With Settings highlighted press 0 0 1 Select.

Choose 'Refresh all Apps on this box'

it didn't restart after the software update, probably because I was already on the latest version, so I restarted it manually.

Updated apps, again didn't restart just back to TV, so again I restarted manually.

There still are no UHD icons on any iPlayer programs.

I am not too sure if this will hep anyone but perhaps you can tell us what the iplayer app System info says

When in the app, scroll down the left hand menu bar to the Settings Wheel, then tab down to 'Settings & help', you should get anothe menu with 'Help' at the bottom & then another with System Information at the bootom

I am not sure speficially to look for but at the leaset I suggest Device (my V2 box shows as SKY STB 216 Q UHD) & Screen & Layout Resolutions 1920 x 1080 - hopefully someone with a V3 box can advise what you should see

EDIT : I am guessing ScreenLayout & resolution is not much help as my Firestick 4K app also shows 1920x1080 but I can get UHD/HDR on it
