Connection For SKY Q

I have had a letter from SKY telling me that I can get SKY Q for no extra charge,I think this is not exactly true as my TV has a SCART connection,am I right in thinking that the SKY Q box will NOT connect to this TV?

Hi @anothersnaefell

You need aTV with a HDMI input connection for Sky Q

Thanks for that,I rather thought so,it won't cost me anything as long as I spend hundreds on a new TV!!!!

Sky are pushing these letters out to Sky+ subscribers in an effort to move users away from the Sky+ system.

If you currently have Sky+ then the obvious non-subscription option is Freesat rather than Freeview

All current Freeview (and Freesat) boxes will also be HDMI-only though.

Be aware that while there is a great deal of antique Freesat/Freeview hardware around, a lot of it is truly obsolete and won't receive a functioning EPG. Your Sky+ box will act as a free-to-air satellite receiver without a Sky subscription, but would have no hard drive functionality.

Perhaps worth noting that SCART is a 1970s technology.

...but as already noted you won't find a SCART connector on any freesat box.

You will either need an aerial (for freeview) or buy a TV with HDMI.

Manhattan has always tried to provide for older televisions: it's only relatively recently that they stopped having an integrated SCART block on both Freesat and Freeview receivers.
