Sky F1 UHD Picture Quality

There appears to be an issue with the Sky produced feed (not the world FOM feed). I have noticed over the last few races a lot of what I would describe as "posterisation" on skin surfaces in direct sunlight.

So as per example pictured, Rosberg and Danica Patrick are in the shade, with natural looking skin tones, but Christian Horner (in the sun) has very washed out, flat, pinkish skin particularly face and hand? This is specific to Sky F1, I haven't noticed any issues with the cricket, also broadcast in UHD HDR.

I think sometimes they have the wrong colour space for the UHD feed & yesterday the images for Christians & Zak's interviews were particularly bad. We have noticed before on the F1 feed

I raised it on FB at the time but missed the reply for more info - it did seem to be OK when they cam back after the 'in pen' interviews so not sure if they did spot it & sort it or something else.

I have had a very quick scan of my recording (to get back to the SKY Help team) & it is possible it was just the one Camera - I notice in some shots the trio of presenters were OK but eveyone in the background had really pink/orange faces.

Thanks for your response. It may be just the one camera, I don't know, but it's certainly just the Sky produced material of the presenters that is affected, as I say the FOM feed is fine.

I find it strange that Sky haven't picked this up, it's quite noticeable. It's only been an issue for the last two or three races, earlier in the year it was fine. I would be very interested to hear from someone at Sky about this?

Now I have time I will add some images I have taken from the recording of the UHD Chequered Flag feed:

The close up of Christian was better , although not perfect, - it seems slightly tied to the exposure setting on the Camera

Danica didn't seem so bad in the foreground but all those behind her have the nice 'salmon pink' look

Yes, some of those are even worse than the one I posted! It does seem to be exposure related somehow, with the people in direct sunlight being affected.

It looks to me like the camera they use for the paddock interviews doesn't have hdr, in practice today interviewees wearing white were burnt out, sky burnt out, and still skin issues albeit to a lesser extent. How does this get past the production team?

It's obviously one camera in the paddock that's broken or set up incorrectly. On qualy today at mexico there was an interview with Fred from Ferrari, they were cutting back and forth between two cameras, one was perfect the other was awful

I'm not subscribed to F1 this year but did the 2 cameras have very different backdrops affecting the overall exposure? (HDR ought to make this less of an issue of course)

Sorry for the delayed response but I agree that there seems to be a rogue camera that struggles at times giving a very varied experience - all other cameras seem OK

The problem is that once noticed, it tends to stick out for me

Not imo the 'Rogue' Camera stands out for me

As I started to write this the trio shots of Simon, Crofty & Karun are quite different to the close ups (Camera usually used for close ups is always OK)

12 months on and this is still an issue with one of the hand held cameras in the pit lane on the UHD feed. Odd that they've still not fixed this. It's like there's a red filter over the lens in bright sunlight

As others have said, as far as I understand it, only on track race action is captured in UHD, everything else is upscaled HD in the pitlane, grid walks etc.

For that reason (and it's Q, so HD multiroom), I record the main race on the UHD channel but the series link I have is on the HD channel.

Every time anyone is in direct sunlight it would appear they have been smeared in Papaya coloured sunscreen. I really noticed it last week in Austin but last night it was really bad, so much so I thought there was something wrong with

.... my TV. Of course when the cameras switch or I view a different channel then the issue goes away. At least I know my TV is not failing now... lol.
